EARLY TIMES
Jammu, Apr 10: POJK Refugees Front 1947, 1965, 1971 today held protest demonstration against failure of the successive state and centre regimes to redress problems of the refugees of the State.
Hundreds of displaced persons from Deva Watala, Chamb, manawar, Mirpur, Kotli, Palandari Poonch, Muzafarabad assembled here at Maheshpura Chowk where they staged protest dharna and torched the effigy of the State Govt for ignoring their demands.
Carrying banners and placards, the refugees shouted anti-government slogans and alleged that the government denied them their basic rights for the last many decades and they were not provided land or adequate relief.
They said that they were deprived of their basic rights for decades as successive governments in state as well as centre had assured for all rights including citizenship right but their assurances never saw the light of day.
The demands highlighted during the rally included immediate implementation of Wadhwa Committee report, permanent settlement, citizenship rights, compensation to displaced persons of 1947, 1965 and 1971 etc.
They alleged that state Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Raman Bhalla has again befooled as the memorandum submitted to Prime Minister has not adopted proper procedure through CM and this will serve not purpose but delay and deny the right of the displaced persons from PoK and west Pakistani refugees.
They also alleged that deputy secretary Revenue has put hindrances in making payment of relief to non camp 1971 refugees of Rs 68 lacs which was sanctioned by the Central Govt vide Govt order No 09 Aug 2000.
The PoK refugees also endorsed the crusade of Anna Hazare against Corruption.
Front president Yudhvir Singh and general secretary Rachpal Singh Chib spoke on the occasion.
