| REAL WORLD CUP HAS YET TO BE WON | | | KHUSHWANT S RANIAL | 4/11/2011 8:25:47 PM |
| India won the world cup cricket 2011 with much fanfare. Too much media hype was added to it .Almost all the basic issues concerning the growth and pace of development were relegated to the wall. The mega event caught the attraction of the bigwigs irrespective of their political stature, bollywood ,national barriers ,corporate tycoons ,social hierarchal standings across the length and breadth of this entire nation as well as in the south Asian subcontinent and other cricket playing nations due to the participation of their own teams etc. It is before ,I may derail from the main subject at hand,as an ardent follower of the game and being a true sportsman ,I feel myself to be duty bound to extend my heartiest congratulations to the entire team again irrespective of their role both on the field or behind the curtain in moulding the character of the players in bringing this cup after 28 years ,when India cherished first taste of victory in 1983 under the able leadership of the then great all rounder Kapil Dev . Truly Hats off to all of them who brought some smile on the otherwise sulken faces of the Indians who have lost hopes of reversing the inflationary trends and have been severely hit by its scourge in last couple of years.
No success is gained in quick succession ,without proper planning and stretching a long term planning .To achieve the target ,one has to make inroads after realising the dreams .Dreams leads to the path of fantasies and fantasies helps us to build up the thoughts to club the efforts after chalking out the procedures and programmes . Definitely, the team which has brought laurels today should owe its success to the efforts of Sourav Gangualy and Anil Kumble who dominated the opposition and always led their respective sides from the front without any pressure in the years gone by in the first decade of this century . With the result that the succeeding captains had learnt the lessons of holding the nerves at the pressure periods during the game . Mr.Dhoni now rated to be Mr. Cool ,no doubt deserves the accolades for his undeniable achievements in lifting the spirits of the team members ,keeping the team in unison without adding extra pressure on the rest of the team players, holding the respect for every member according to one’s experience ,age ,calibre and temperament and applying his sixth sense meticulously in exploiting the weaknesses of the opposition and projecting the potential of the right teammate at the right time and place but above all his present position do well go the those who reigned earlier to him for leaving him scope to learn from theirs contribution . In fact , his predecessors laid foundations for him to step in, without shoe pinching to his nerves and think widely to extract more from his fellow friends in the team whosoever was added to the team on the basis of their experience and performance both at the state level and national levels from time to time .
We acknowledge the efforts of all of them and salute for their brave efforts in putting our national flag high by standing at the top of the podium in the end. Equally we do hope that in the coming years ,we shall come across to cherish more such glorious moments after our players exhibits courage to win laurels in the field of other sports as well. Truly sports brings world together and binds the national feelings regardless of one’s social ,cultural, political, religious and above all economic standings and affiliations. The spirit of true patriotism gets reflected automatically because everybody starts breathing at the same pace and treads in the same direction. The high rising Mexican waves displayed by the onlookers in the field as well as those who remain glued to the other mode of information like radio and television adds beauty to the unity in diversity .True cosmopolitan character itself comes to fore front and develops the urge for the success to be tasted together . The recent ended mega event which knit every Indian in the same frame for over than a month is a prime example of this unification and we wish that such spirit should stay forever to achieve the milestone in other parts of our daily life to make our lives healthier, tension free, un stressful and painless.
No doubt we have gained the success in the field of sports but the real success for the Indians has yet to be achieved and that is to overcome the formidable poverty, ever rising inflation, women upliftment, curbing the concept of reservations which have led to the division of Indian society than cohesion and above last but not least the rampant corruption and scaling corrupt malpractices. The bureaucratic red- tapism and poor judicial activism needs to be revamped to set the disturbed social set up in order so that respite to the needy ones could be afforded .We require another team to build our national character which could help to take us to the path of glory, success and progress in the near future .
But alas, so far this is undone. We pray to God to bless this Nation with Greats like Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tenulkar ,Kapil Dev ,Dilip Vengsarkar , Bishan Bedi, Chandershekar,E.Prassanna , M S Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh ,Anil Kumble , Sourav Gangualy etc to lead this nation in the right direction by staying in front and set examples for the emulation . The day when we shall be able to curb all sorts of malpractices and be in a position to provide the meals ,shelter and clothing to all those who have been hard hit by the poverty , then only we can claim that real world cup has come within our folds. Till then taste of such a victory does not carry a permanent taste and lasting imprints on the sands of the time although such a recorded victory has become a part of the history to be remembered over and again to console our feelings in the time of despair.
