Panchayat elections will open gateway to natural growth: JKPP | | | EARLY TIMES Jammu, Apr 11: "The visible sincerity exhibited by the State Government to go ahead with Panchayat elections is a welcome step. This step is sure to open a gateway to natural growth and development of the rural areas", said Abdul Gani Naseem ex MLA and patron, Jammu & Kashmir Panchayat Parishad (JKPP). He said that holding of Panchayat elections without implementing 73'd and 74th constitutional amendments is not good to the health of grass root democratic institution. Jugal Kishore Gupta, president of JKPP said that awareness camps being organized by JKPP teams in rural areas are proving very purposeful in motivating youth and women of weaker sections of the society to come forward and contest the Panchayat elections as Panch or Sarpanch. He referred to the recent seminar held by JKPP on this topic at Kathua. He expressed the apprehension that some political parties may get tempted to tilt the resultant outcome of panchayat elections in their favour which may spoil the very purpose of holding these elections. Gopal Dass Sharma member All India Panchayat Council said that rural masses have suffered much for want of their participation in the developmental activities of the villages particularly belonging to far off areas. They have high hopes from these elections Yoginder Singh - district president Kathua highlighted the problems of farmers, artisans, labourers and unsatisfactory implementation of various welfare schemes being executed in the area. Goswami, Bharat Mahajan, Surjit Rampaul, Rajiv Dutta, DeepMala, Sonia Dutta, Rajinder Khajuria also attended the meeting.
