3 killed, 33 hurt in road accidents

JAMMU, Apr 11 : Three persons were killed and 33 others, including 29 police cops, wounded in separate road accidents here today.Police sources said a Santro car (JK01M/5707), which was on its way to Srinagar, collided head-on with a truck (JK02AJ/1517) at Kharpora in Banihal, resulting in the instant death of two car occupants and injuries to three others.
The dead were identified as Hilal Ahmad, son of Ghulam Mohammad of of Gulab Bagh, Ganderbal, and Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, son of Mohammad Sultan Bhat of Nowshera, Ganderbal, and the injured as Uzar Ahmed, son of Tahir Ahmed, Abrar Ahmed, son of Mohammad Iqbal, and Mohammad Iqbal Kanth, son of Mohammad Shafi, all residents of Ganderbal.
The injured were admitted to the Banihal hospital and later referred to SKIMS, Srinagar.
Police had seized the truck and arrested its driver Jagbir Singh, son of Maya Singh of Gandhinagar.
Nazia Begum, wife of Mohammad Shafi of Raghura, Bagh-e-Bahu, was killed after she was hit by an army vehicle near her residence.
In another car-truck collision at Batote, car driver Bashir Ahmad, son of Ghulam Rasool of Palampora, Pulwama, was wounded. He was hospitalised.
Meanwhile, at least 29 police personnel were injured, eight of them seriously, when a bus (JK02A/3705) carrying them skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge near Nowshera in Rajouri.
Sources said the cops were on their way to Jammu for duties in the upcoming panchayat polls.
The bus fell into the gorge near Nowshera when its driver Dalip Kumar lost control over the steering wheel, resuling in injuries to at least 29 cops.
The injured were hospitalized. Eight of them were referred to the GMC hospital following deterioration in their condition.
Those admitted to the GMCH were identified as SGC Naresh Kumar, cop Rashpal, cop Shahnaz Ahmed, cop Mohammed Shabir, Soba Ram, Tariq Mohammed, SGC Suraj Prakash and Mohammed Sadiq.
