| FORMER TSWO SOPORE CHALLANED FOR MISAPPROPORTION OF OLD AGE PENSION | | |

State Vigilance Organization, today produced challan in the court of special judge anti corruption Kashmir against Mst Bismellah Sofi then posted as Tehsil Social Welfare Officer Sopore and Sh Riyaz Ahmad Rather, Junior Assistant for misappropriating Government funds amounting to Rs36.31 lacs released by the government under various social security schemes such as National Old Age Pension Scheme (NOAPS) and Integrated Social Security Scheme (ISSS).
Case FIR NO 17/2004 P/s VOK u/s 5(2) P. C. Act r/w 120 B RPC was registered on 16.08.2004 when Preliminary Verifications conducted by the SVO pram facie established that the two accused officials have, in furtherance of a criminal conspiracy fabricated records and misappropriated a large sum of Government money released under various Social Security schemes.
In the course of investigation it was revealed that an amount of Rs 92.32 lacs was kept at the disposal of Tehsil Social Welfare Officer Sopore for distribution among various categories of beneficiaries between the period 01,01,2003 to 30.03.2003. This money was kept in an official account mentioned in Kamraz Rural Bank, Krankshuan Branch Sopore. The entire amount has been shown to have been withdrawn from the bank and disbursed among the beneficiaries through postal money orders under NOAPS & ISSS schemes. The investigation has established that only Rs 56 lacs were actually disbursed. While as the remaining Rs 36.31 lacs were found to have been misappropriated by the two accused. This includes an amount of Rs1.39 lacs which was returned undelivered by the post office authorities and Rs14.65 lacs shown to have been disbursed through fraudulent/ fake money orders and Rs 16 lacs shown to have been disbursed in cash fraudulently.
