Teachers use political connections to skip work

JAMMU, April 12:
The ‘attachment syndrome’ has become a major problem in educational institutions in Ramban affecting the smooth functioning of various schools.
Though many of the government schools are facing problems due to lack of staff, many ‘blue eyed’ boys have been attached as per their wish, despite the fact that they have been transferred in the district to serve the students.
“Many of the teachers have used approach and political connections to save themselves from performing their duty. They are enjoying the salaries without performing any work”, sources said.
Darvinder Singh- a RTI Activist said that due to lack of staff in the schools, the students are facing hardship, as some of the appointed staff member has attached themselves to the place of their choice. He also said that some of them able to transfer them along with the post.
“I also filed an RTI application to get the details of the education scenario in district Ramban” he added.
In the district, 760 government schools are running out of which 35 High schools, 13 higher secondary schools, 522 Primary schools and 190 middle schools.
These government educational institutes were established in the said district but there are many posts which are lying vacant due to one reason or the other. The vacant posts include teachers, Masters, Principals and Zonal Education Officer (ZEOs).
The department sanctions 13 posts of the Principals whereas 2 posts are vacant,6 posts of the Zonal Education Officer (ZEO’s) one post is vacant, 29 posts of the
Headmasters but 4 posts are vacant, 180 posts of the lecturer 87 posts are still vacant.
And 269 sanction posts of the masters out of which 77 posts are vacant,1585 posts of the teachers but 177 posts are vacant, after that 149 posts of the fourth class employees whereas only 96 employees are working.
He maintained that as per the government norms the appointments made under Rehbar-e-Taleem are not supposed to transfer or even attached during its service in the education department, but neglecting these norms the higher officials are making transfers and attachments of these employees.
According to the RTI report, the 20 government teachers, 6 masters and
1 ReT teacher has been transferred as per their wishes.
