| Scrap dealer among 2 killed, 1 hurt in shell explosion | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Apr 12: A powerful mortar shell exploded inside a shop at Jourian in Akhnoor today, resulting in the death of two persons, including a scrap dealer, and critical injuries to another.The incident occured inside scrap dealer's shop at about 9.30 am
when he was trying to break it for copper, police sources said.
While scrap dealer Ram Lal, Pritam Lal and Gurdyal were trying to extract copper from the shell, it exploded with a big-bang, the sources added.
While Ram Lal, who hailed from Dunichak, Jourian, was killed on the spot, Pritam of Dhok Khalsa succumbed to his wounds at the GMC hospital where Gurdyal was struggling for life. He had sustained multiple splinter injuries.
Some nearby shops also suffered damages with the impact of the blast.
Sources said the scrap dealer had found the shell in the nearby army firing range.
Two live shells were stated to have been recovered from the damaged shop.
