Kashmir observed strike against Dogras of Jammu | Dogra Certificate Issue | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 12: Why did the Kashmir Valley observe a strike on Monday? The Kashmiri Valley observed strike against the government's decision to grant Dogra certificates to the Dogras of Jammu province desirous of joining the Indian Army and Central paramilitary forces. Who ordered Kashmiri Muslims to observe strike, keep the shutters down, not to open the business establishments and shops and boycott educational institutions on April 11? Syed Ali Shah Geelani and other Kashmiri leaders, who hate the Dogras from the core of their heart and who want New Delhi to quit not only Kashmir but also Jammu and Ladakh because they want to introduce theocratic rule across the state and make the people of the state return to the medieval and dark ages, when brutality, barbarity, persecution and anarchy reigned supreme. What did the Kashmiri separatists say while ordering the Kashmiri Muslims to obey their dictates? They said: "They will go an extra mile in opposing the order." What does the Dogra certificate provide for? It provides for relaxation in rules governing recruitment to the Army and paramilitary forces as far as height and width of chest are concerned. Indeed, illusory and petty concessions -- concessions available to the Marathas, the Gurkhas and to several other ethnic groups in the country. What was the official response to the call for strike in Kashmir? The government didn't do anything to foil the separatists' move aimed at disrupting normal life in Kashmir. What was the result? The result was that the mortally afraid Kashmiri Muslims followed the separatists' dictates in order to escape the latter's wrath and save their life and protect their property. What did the state government says on the issue? It said: "The issue would be discussed in the cabinet and if the need arises the centre will be also be approached." Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said so. Earlier, PHE Minister Taj Mhi-ud-Din, Revenue Minister Raman Bhalla and his Minister of State had said so during their Srinagar press conference a couple of days ago. They had gone all the way from Jammu to Srinagar to make this announcement and keep the separatists in good humour. What does all this show? It shows the state government is mortally afraid of the Kashmiri separatists and that it is prepared to go an extra mile to accommodate them and their pernicious demand that seeks withdrawal of the order concerning Dogra certificate. It also shows that it is the separatists who are ruling the roost in the state and that the state government considers their word as a final word. What should the Dogras of Jammu province do to protect and preserve their distinct identity? Should they watch the ongoing anti-Dogra movement in Kashmir as a mute spectator or should they rise to the occasion and oppose their bitter opponents in Kashmir? It is for them to exercise one of the two options. Let's see which option they finally exercise. However, there are potent reasons to believe that they may exercise the second option. In any case, one thing is clear: The gulf between the Dogras of Jammu province and Kashmiri leaders has further widened, thus creating a situation that would ultimately culminate in the disintegration of the state, with the Dogras of Jammu and Ladakhis obtaining a dispensation independent of Kashmir. This will surely happen sooner than later. Courtesy: Kashmiri leadership, separatist and the "mainstream." |
