Police nails main culprit; two ministers, police officers under scanner | Fake gun licences case | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Sumit Sharma JAMMU, Apr 12: Jammu and Kashmir Police today nailed the main culprit ex-Sub-district Magistrate, (SDM) Mendhar Mukhtiyar Choudhary in the infamous fake gun licences case. Choudhary, who was immediately placed under suspension after his involvement surfaced in the fake gun licences scam was today arrested from the residence of a journalist in Dalpatian Mohallah under the jurisdiction of Peer Mitha police station today. He was absconding since the day when police registered a case against him for his involvement in the fake gun licences case. The racket was busted by Janipur police on February 14 when it arrested four persons in fake gun licences scam. Their identification was established as Chain Singh, Naseer Ahmed, Mohammad Rafiq, and Subash Chander, all residents of Koteranka in Rajouri. It was during investigation that police seized fake gun licenses allegedly signed by Sub-District Magistrate Mendhar Mukhtiyar Choudhary. SDM was booked under section 420,467,468,471,161,165 A, 120B, 201 and 3/25 Arms Act in Janipur police station. Mukhtiyar had also filed pre arrest bail application few days ago but the same was rejected by Special Judge, Anti-corruption, Jammu A.K Koul on Friday. "Based on a tip-off by District Special Branch, Janipur police team comprising of SDPO Bakshi Nagar Shiv Dev Singh Chouhan raided residence of a journalist namely Shahid Saleem in Dalpatian Mohallah," said the sources. Choudhary was arrested without much resistance, they added. Sources further added that during the preliminary questioning of the accused SDM, he has confessed of having issued the licences and further about hobnobbing with two senior cabinet minister and two police officers of the rank of DySP to somehow evade arrest. They confirmed that the accused SDM is being questioned and more revelation and recoveries are likely to take place in the days ahead. Sources confirmed that during initial investigation, Choudhary has confessed to have issued three gun houses on fake documents to the civilians at the cost of Rs 36,000.The youths, being issued fake licenses from the twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri, had managed jobs of security guards in Mumbai and Kolkata. Accordingly police conducted a raid Jammu based two gun houses-Suresh Armory, Gourvor Armory and Singh Gun House and arrested their owners namely Harpal Singh, Suresh Kumar and Hem Raj Gun Manufacturing factory in Jammu, besides judicial clerk Mohammed Khalik. On being investigated, police established that 209 fake gun licenses of different districts had been issued by Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in Mendhar. Highest number of 53 fake gun licences were issued in Rajouri, 30 in Poonch, 29 in home department, 27 in Doda, 15 in Ramban, 13 in Kathua, 11 in Udhampur, 8 each in Jammu and Kapwara districts, 6 in Reasi, 3 each in Srinagar and Anantnag districts and one in Kishtwar district. |
