BJP groping in the dark, wants solution within framework of "Insaaniyat"

JAMMU, Apr 12: The BJP high command has constituted a Parliamentarians' Study Group on Jammu and Kashmir. It is charged with the responsibility of finding a solution to the prevailing unrest in the state and people's problems. It would meet people from all walks of life in the state, ascertain their views and work out a roadmap that could end unrest in the state. Former national BJP president Rajnath Singh is the head of this so-called five-member study group. Other members of the group are Ravi Shankar Prasad, Shahnawaz Hussain, Maya Singh and JK Jain, all Members of Parliament. All the five members landed in Jammu yesterday and they would fly to Srinagar tomorrow. They would also go to Ladakh after sometime.
Talking to media persons, Rajnath Singh held out a commitment that he and his colleagues would devise a roadmap that would be based on the concepts of "Insaaf and Insaaniyat" or on the cardinal principles of "Loktantra & Lokshahi" (democracy). In other words, he announced that the BJP has decided to pursue the dangerous path that was charted by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee almost a decade ago - Vajpayee who is known for his Tangdhar statement that Article 370 shall ever remain part of the Indian Constitution. Vajpayee had negated the very concept of India as a sovereign state by putting forth his mind-boggling "solution-within-framework-of-Insaaniyat" formulation. His whole intention was to purchase peace in Kashmir and befriend Pakistan by compromising the age-old Indian stand on Jammu and Kashmir.
Again, it was Vajpayee who extended the hand of friendship to Pakistan in 2003 overlooking what Islamabad had done in the past to bleed and destroy India. Had the people of the country again voted the Vajpayee government to power in 2004, the BJP-led NDA Government would have surely compromised the Indian position on Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan and the Kashmiri separatists would have obtained what they have failed to obtain thus far. The present Congress-led UPA Government is also treading the same path. That's the reason the Kashmiri separatists as well as the PDP leadership and Pakistan hail Vajpayee and bemoan the collapse of his government in May 2004.
State is a state and everyone knows what the institution of the state means. It is through statecraft that the institution of the state is maintained. Those who talk in terms of meeting the separatist and communal urges of Pakistan and its agents in Kashmir through the framework of "Insanniyat" know nothing about statecraft. It would be no exaggeration to say that it was Vajpayee and his government that caused great damage to the national cause in the country.
It is indeed astonishing that the BJP, which virtually owes its origin to Jammu, doesn't know anything about the state even after 63 years of the state's accession to India. Should it be taken to mean that the local unit of the BJP has not informed the BJP high command about the nature of the problem the nation is facing in Kashmir? The problem in Kashmir is communal and not political and the bottom line in Kashmir is secession, based on religious fanaticism. Or, should one conclude that the party high command doesn't believe in what the local unit of the party stands for and advocates? It appears the party high command doesn't share the views of the local unit. Had the party high command gone by what the local leadership of the party has been doing and saying in and outside the assembly for quite sometime now, it would not have constituted a study group. Nor would have it reiterated that it is committed to pursuing the Vajpayee line.
The BJP would do well to abandon its "Insaaniyat" formulation and take recourse to statecraft. It should remember that Kashmir is over-empowered, over-fed, over-pampered and over-appeased and that it is Jammu and Ladakh which need empowerment. If the BJP high command is really interested in tackling the issues facing different people inhabiting different regions of the state, it has no other option but to call a spade a spade, expose those demanding separation in Kashmir, work for the empowerment of Jammu and Ladakh and ensure complete merger of the state with India by abrogating Article 370 of the Indian Constitution. It must stop playing the politics of emotional blackmail and deceit. This is what the vast nationalist constituency in the state and the rest of the country expect from the BJP.
