Road shows, travel marts to be held in south-eastern countries

JAMMU, APRIL 13: Minister for Tourism and Culture, Mr. Nawang Rigzin Jora has said that tourism ministry has chalked out a comprehensive publicity campaign to showcase tourism potential of all the three regions of the State in and outside the country, adding that a series of road shows and travel marts would be organized this year in south eastern countries.
This was stated by the Minister while chairing a high level officers meeting held here today to discuss ways and means for wooing large number of tourists to visit the State by launching a vigorous publicity campaign through national reputed advertising agency ‘Ogilvy and Mathers’ New Delhi.
During the meeting, the representatives of ‘Ogilvy and Mather’ gave a power point presentation depicting methodology to showcase and market the state’s tourism through print and electronic media. The agency gave suggestions for promoting tourism in the State. They said that use of face-book, tweeter and YouTube for promoting tourism potential of J&K globally would also prove beneficial. The meeting asked concerned advertising agency to submit a media plan to the Government for its approval so that the necessary campaign would be initiated well in time.
The Minister said that tourism is playing a vital role to boost the economy of the state. He said government is striving to promote this sector at a large scale, adding besides creating infrastructure at new destinations, the promotion of adventure, pilgrim, golf tourism receives focused attention.
Mr. Jora said publicizing the state’s tourism potential is an important factor for motivating tourists for the purpose, he said the government would organize travel marts at New Delhi, London and Berlin this year and would ensure participation in travel tourism fairs at Kolkata, Surat, Mumbai and New Delhi, besides representation from the State in Indian Travel Marts at Amritsar, Lucknow, Goa, Ahmadabad and Chandigrah would be also ensured. He said the state’s representatives would also participate in Indian International Travel Marts at Chenai, Pune and Banglore this year to showcase the incredible tourism potential of the State.
The Minister said the government has initiated various measures to promote adventure tourism in the State, adding this year a ski mountaineering expedition from Kargil to Zanaskar, SAARC Golf Championship at RSGC, Mughal Road Rally, besides other adventure activities are being organized for adventure lovers, adding that short films would be produced for newer destinations after the policy on production of films is issued to showcase the virgin tourism potential of the state globally.
