NGO expresses concern over land grabbing & timber smuggling | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Apr 13: : A voluntary social organisation namely “Universal Development Organisation" (UDO) Regd. has expressed its grave concern over ongoing land grabbing by some blue eyed people and smuggling of timber by them on large scale in compartment No 115 & 116 under the jurisdiction of Forest Range Kalakote in Forest Division Rajouri. The secretary general of the UDO, Bhupinder Singh, advocate has alleged that despite ban imposed by the Supreme Court of India on the felling of green trees through-out the country a large number of green trees, dried trees, and land is being grabbed by some people with the help of Forest Deptt. Division Rajouri on monthly commission basis to them as they are silent in this direction. Singh has alleged that in the current sessions of the State Legislatures the matter of land grabbing was on rise in Rajouri and Poonch Districts, but despite hue and cry by the MLC, Ravinder Sharma and some others the land is being grabbed at present also in compartment .No115-116, in Kalakote tehsil and the grabbers are continuously smuggling timber by cutting green trees from the forests. He also alleged that despite applications moved to the Divisional Forest Officer Rajouri under J&K.RTI Act, in this connection the officer who is also Distt. Public Information Officer Rajouri has failed to provide requisite information even after directions issued by the Chief Conservator Forests Jammu from last six months as a result the cutting of trees, smuggling of timber and land grabbing is on.
