Early Times Report
JAMMU, April 13: All Jammu Hotels and Lodges Association has expressed serious concern and dissatisfaction over celebrations of Jammu Tourism Festival this year at a very low key.
A meeting of the hoteliers association was held under the Chairmanship of its President Inderjeet Khajuria who observed that the celebration of Jammu festival, which synchronizes with Baisakhi festival, this year, has been an insipid show.
He said that there is hardly any participation of the stakeholders in promotion of Jammu tourism and heritage, as had been the case in previous years. He further said that gradually the organizer of this festival, viz the Tourism department has been ignoring Jammu city, which earlier used to be main centre of celebrations, highlighting Jammu region’s diversity of culture, art and heritage.
The inauguration of the function marked the taking out of tableaus, displaying all aspects of culture and art of Jammu region, with Gujjars, Bakerwals, ethnic Dogras and other ethnic groups giving performance of their respective arts and culture. But since last year the same has been dispensed with and the festival diversified to various places outside Jammu city.
While the association has welcomed diversification of the festival to other important heritage and tourist places around Jammu city, it has expressed concern over ignoring the capital city of Jammu, from where originally this festival had started.
The association observed that the celebrations of festival this year are not publicized properly, as a result of which the participation of common people has been minimal. Unlike previous years only a limited number of people attended the programmes held to celebrate the festival, which were at a very low key.
They said that.the celebrations of festival in the past was a unique phenomenon, depicting communal harmony and goodwill, since members from all religions took active part in the same and the associations of various bazaars as well as various social organizations and NGOs fully participated in the same. This year that aspect is missing.
