Security grid upgraded to ensure peace in Kashmir | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, April 13: Following the assassination of Ahle Hadees Chief, Maulana Showkat Ahmed, and reports indicating that groups of militants have been brought on the launching pads across the LOC the security grid in the entire state and on the border has been further upgraded. Official sources said that the security forces have been instructed to maintain vigil against mischief mongers and prevent anyone from destabilising peace. Sources said that various intelligence agencies have further strengthened their field staff and field sources so that plans and movement of militants and their overground workers were known in advance. In addition to this troops, guarding the border, have been asked to intensify patrolling round the corner and ensure that not a single soul was able to sneak into Jammu and Kashmir. Sources said that during the last three weeks even the nonconventional infiltration routes have been plugged after th distance between one border outpost and the other had been reduced. Reports said that additional consignments of non-lethal weapons were being sent for the security forces.Intially these weapons are to be handled by the police but in case some companies of CRPF too were deployed for dealing with the civilian strife they too would be given these non-lethal weapons so that there were no causalities. Senior police functionaries said that so far there has been no response from people to secret moves by certain vested interests for inciting them to take to the streets. The first exercise had been made during the mourning of Maulana Showkat Ahmed but majority of mourners refused to destabilise peace. The Government has been told to expedite with its plan of providing employment to over 50,000 youths during the current year so that not many were available for joining the protest rallies. The only way to ensure peace in the valley was to resolve the problem of unemployment and see to it that there were no incidents of human rights violations or excesses committed by the security forces.
