Secessionists making mountain out of mole on Dogra certificate: BJP
4/14/2011 1:08:53 AM

EARLY TIMES Report
Jammu, apr 13: Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) has charged the secessionists of making a mountain of a mole by trying to mislead a section of Kashmiris on the .issue of Dogra Certificate which is required for joining the armed forces especially the Dogra Regiment which has a great history of valour and courage in the battle field.
Deploring the uncal1ed for controversy being raised by certain elements in Kashmir, the former Union Minister of State for Defence and the BJP Legislators Party leader, Chaman Lal Gupta has said that Dogra Certificate is required at the time of recruitment in the armed forces as they get some concession in the height and chest.
This is available not only to the people of Jammu but also to the Dogri speaking areas of adjoining Himachal Pradesh.
Prior to the sad communal partition of 1947 this concession was also available to the adjoining Shakergarh and other Dogri speaking areas of Sialkote district of Punjab.
This sort of concessions are available to some other areas too as in Poonch-Rajouri and also to Doda district youth at time of recruitment as they get concession in the field of educational standard.
Gupta also pointed the concession is not only to people of one religion. There are many. Muslims too in the Dogra regiment beside the Yak Rifles. The Gorkhas used to get much more concession in the height even than those of Dogras.
All these races are having such like concession to join their regiment even prior to the independence of the country. Similar such formations like that of Balochs and Pathans are having it even in Pakistan.
The BJP leader alleged that fuss is being created over a non-issue but for there being some infection of the sort in the Congress-NC coalition of the state and a weak Government at the centre which is buckling under certain such like communal and separatist pressures.
Gupta said that instead of being swayed under threats of separatists, if there is need on this issue, that is to look into that how and at whose instance the practice of issuing Dogra certificates was stopped for the past some years especially after 2005 and why the Government has to issue a fresh notification in this regard.
As far as the ill-will of some Kashmiri leaders against Dogras is concerned, it is not new, he added and recalled to the quit Kashmir movement of 1947 and even their discrimination against Jammu having its roots to the old animosity although the scions of the Maharajas have gone in the lap of Congress and NC.
