Dogras will defeat Geelani comprehensively and resolutely | Dogra Certificate Issue | | MINCING NO WORDS NEHA EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 13: Out-on-the-limb, frustrated and issueless Tahrik-e-Hurriyat chief Syed Ali Shah Geelani has threatened a mass agitation in Kashmir in order to force the NC-Congress coalition government to withdraw the order it issued last month entitling Dogras of Jammu province to obtain Dogra certificates from the concerned authorities so that they could avail themselves of certain relaxations in rules governing recruitment to the Army and Central paramilitary forces. He held out the threat yesterday after making the gullible and emotional Kashmiri Muslims observe a shutdown in the Valley on Monday. The stated objective of the threatened agitation is to make the Kashmiri Muslims aware of the “implications of Dogra certificates.” He has described the order on issuance of Dogra certificates as a “grave issue”, as also as a conspiracy hatched by New Delhi and the state government aimed at dividing the state, and demanded that the government must withdraw the order forthwith. “Order pertaining to the issuance of Dogra Certificate should be revoked as early as possible because the people of Valley don’t approve of such orders which have been passed to divide the state on communal lines,” spokesman of Geelani, Ayaz Akbar, has said. Geelani faction has, in addition, announced that it faction would organize a seminar on this “sensitive issue” on April 18. “The state government is acting at the behest of New Delhi and India has sinister designs,” he has also said. What Geelani and his spokesperson have said is amusing. It is amusing in the sense that those who consistently sing the monotonous and irritating Pakistani song; demanding separation of Kashmir on religious grounds; pour contempt on India and everything Indian; spew venom on the Dogras of Jammu, the erstwhile rulers of the state; seek to force down the throats of the nationalist Dogras and Ladakhis their primitive, intolerant and regressive ideology; and work day and night to offend the sensitivities of the Dogras are saying that the order relating to the issuance of Dogra certificates to the Dogras is nothing but a conspiracy hatched by New Delhi, in collaboration with the state government, to divide the state on communal lines. That the likes of Geelani have registered their opposition to an order that doesn’t grant anything substantial to the Dogras of Jammu province should make everyone dismiss Geelani with contempt. He needs to be dismissed with contempt as a vicious man, as a perverted man all the more because he has denounced even that decision that has no bearing on the state government’s recruitment policy, which is out and out Kashmir-centric and patently anti-Dogras, including Muslim Dogras. Why the way, who has given Geelani the mandate to speak on behalf of the Dogras? None. Let Geelani agitate in Kashmir. Let him organize seminars in Kashmir. Let him pour venom on the Dogras. Let him launch an agitation in Kashmir on the issue. He would not get anything out of his anti-Dogra exercise. He would come out of this exercise minus everything. The reason: The Dogras have made up their mind to defeat him and others of his ilk comprehensively and resolutely. They are not afraid of the Geelanis. They are afraid of the Jammu-based leaders, including the Congress leaders, who have been maintaining a stoic silence on the issue. But the silver-lining is that the Jammu-based Congress ministers, legislators and leaders know it full well that any move on the part of the state government to modify or withdraw the order would prove a last nail in the Congress’ coffin. It has already become somewhat unpopular in Jammu because of its several acts of omission and commission. It cannot afford to make common cause with the NC on this issue. It can do so only at its own peril. Revenue Minister Raman Bhalla and JKPCC chief Saif-ud-Din Soz know it full well. They will not allow the government to do anything that has the potential of further rendering the Congress party irrelevant in Jammu province. Jammu province is the core constituency of the Congress and the Congress leadership knows it very well. But more than that, the situation as it has started developing in Jammu province does indicate that the Dogras are preparing themselves for a relentless campaign against the anti-Dogra forces, wherever they are and whosoever they are. The Dogras are Dogras. It would be suicidal for the government to take them for a ride. Statesmanship demands a clear-cut statement from the government to the effect that it would not tinker with the order, come what may.
