Rajouri, April 14: Thousands of people belonging to about ten villages of Thananmandi
tehsil came on streets on Thursday and staged a dharna on Rajouri –Poonch road due to which the traffic movement remained off for more than three hours .
The people were protesting against the direct involvement of Assistant Commissioner Revenue Rajouri for his alleged involvement of campaigning in favor of his community and relative candidates who are in fray in the present panchayat elections.
ACR Rajouri is a local officer and belongs to Thanamandi tehsil where the protest was organized against him.The protestors alleged that ACR Rajouri being a local officer was actively involved in the election campaigning for his close relatives contesting the Panchayat polls.
The protestors further alleged that misusing his official position, the said officer has threatened many voters and candidates to stop the land compensations if they voted against the relatives of the said officer. The people demanded immediate shifting of the officer from the district and appointment of a non local officer at his place for fair and smooth conduct of elections.
