Celebrations of 155th year of Raghunath Bazar started

JAMMU, April 14: Raghunath Bazaar Businessmen Association (RBBA), started celebrations of 155thyear of the historical bazaar, commencing from the auspicious occasion of Baisakhi to culminate on the auspicious occasion of Diwali.


The Inspector General of Police Jammu, Dilbagh Singh, who was the Chief Guest on the occasion inaugurated the celebrations by litting ceremonial lamp (Deep Jalan). The other distinguished guests present on the occasion included District Development Commissioner Jammu Sh. Sanjeev Verma, Director Tourism Robin Singh Mehta, Vice Chairman Jammu Development Authority Vinod Sharma and Joint Commissioner JMC Babu Lal.

Welcoming the distinguish guests, the Vice Chairman of the association Sachin Khurana and General Secy. Sanjay Gupta informed that to mark 155 years of coming into being of Raghunath Bazar Jammu, the association is holding carnival on 6th of every month, as a part of its celebrations in reviving its pristine glory of the historical bazaar.

Under the scheme free coupons will be issued to all the customers who make purchases up to the amount of rupees 500 from any shop in the bazaar. Afterwards lucky coupon draw will be taken out on 6th of the every month and ten gift packets valuing rupees five hundred will be given away to the winners of the draw.


The scheme which will commence with Baisakhi festival in April and will run till after the Diwali festival in early November. After which a bumper draw of lucky coupon will be held and a Tata Nano Car will be given away to the winner of the final draw. Last year also the association had held such draw and given away Nano Car to the winner.


Submitting a memorandum to the IGP, Director Tourism, Vice Chairman JDA and Additional Commissioner JMC, it was presented that as was decided in 2009 by the administration at a high level meeting, to name the old police station City Chowk parking slot as Raghunath Bazaar parking stand, the same be announced.

It was further demanded that Raghunath Bazaar should be declared as the tourist area and hence it should be exempted from observing weekly off days and also timing for closing of the shops. The bazaar should remain open till late night and on all the seven days of the week.
