Karra underscored imbibing of sense of ethics to create responsive society

Jammu, Nov 16
The Minister for Finance, Planning Parliamentary Affairs and Law Mr. Tariq Hameed Karra has underscored the need for imbibing sense of ethics among the people for creating responsibly and scrupulous society in the state.
Mr. Karra was addressing pre-budget meeting of Excise department here today. Mr. Karra said that though the government have initiated already several measures to root out corruption at grass-root level, yet people have also to contribute their might in this behalf. He said the measures initiated have shown good results at various levels.
The Minister further said to that improve functioning of excise department, mobile squads equipped with modern and latest facilities would be pressed into service besides imparting training to the excise department staff. For this purpose, training institute will be established at Nagrota with hostel facilities and rest house for trainees.
The Minister stressed the need for physical verification of all goods besides relevant papers. He also impressed upon the officers to intensify the checking at Lakhanpur toll post to curb the tax evasion during transportation of the goods from one place to another.
Mr. Karra while reviewing the pace of work on Toll Plaza at Lakhanpur, asked the concerned authorities to identify some land for same Toll Plaza at Lower Munda.
While reviewing the pre-budget meeting, the Commissioner Excise Mr. Abdul Hamid informed the Minister that 55.41 per cent excise revenue has been realised during the last seven months of the current fiscal which comes 3,62 percent above last years revenue in October.
The Minister was further informed that over Rs. 2 crore have so far been incurred on the construction of Toll Plaza Lakhanpur out of the total estimated cost of Rs. 32.20 crore.
Among others the meeting was attended by the Commissioner Excise Mr. Abdul Hamid, Special Secretary Excise Mr. Yadullah and officers of the Excise department.
A deputation of Indian National Trade Union Congress led by its State Secretary Sh. Jugal Sharma also met the Minister and apprised him about the difficulties being faced by Public Sector Undertaking employees.
