| J&K govt using iron fist approach to tackle Kashmir situation: KISS | | |

SRINAGAR, Apr 14: On the invitation of visiting high level team of Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) study group on Kashmir, Director Kashmir Institute of Strategical studies (KISS) Khalid Jehangir met the team to apprise them about prevailing situation in the state.
BJP study group is here to “take stock of the situation and to interact with various shades of opinion.” The group is headed by senior party leader and former BJP president Rajnath Singh and includes Ravi Shankar Prasad and Shahnawaz Hussain.
KISS director reminded the team about the CBM’s initiated during NDA’s (National Democratic Alliance) regime and the effect it had upon the political atmosphere in India and Pakistan. However, he regretted that after that there has been no headway in CBM’s which could have impacted the ground situation in Kashmir as talks have moved on at snail’s pace and that too without any concrete results.
KISS impressed upon the need of ending political uncertainty in Kashmir as the domino effect of Kashmir can destabilize peace and stability of not only India and Pakistan but of whole Sub-continent and urged BJP to play an active and positive role in talks aimed at resolution of Kashmir issue which will eventually usher an era of long lasting peace and development of the region.
KISS director observed that denial of justice breeds and adds to the alienation of people of Kashmir which has reached to its crescendo as government has dealt with iron fist to deal with the situation here adding that despite promising action, government of India has failed to deliver justice in the killings of 114 people killed during last year’s unrest. He lamented that state government has miserably failed to discharge its constitutional obligation of protecting life, honour and property of people.
