Court acquits SI from corruption charges | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 14: Additional sessions judge anti-corruption, D C Sagotra today acquitted SI Nazir Ahmed of corruption charges which were framed against him when he was incharge Bhatindi police post. According to the police case, an application was filed by Shah Mohammad in the court of special judge anti-corruption, Jammu, alleging that the SI in his capacity as Bhatindi police post incharge came to his house at Sunjwan and demanded Rs 15,000 as bribe from him for not implicating him, his brothers and other family members in a case of the kidnapping a girl from their locality. Shah alleged that Nazir arrested his nephew and took from him a bribe of Rs 5,000 for his release. A case was then registered by the state vigilance organisation (SVO) and after investigation, the challan was presented in the court. After hearing both the sides, the judge said though the complainant and the prosecution witnesses were close relatives, they had not supported the prosecution story. There was a delay in the lodging of FIR which had not been explained at all. While the incident took place on July 15, 2005, the previous complaint was lodged in CJM's court on September 7, 2005. This delay of more than about a month and 20 days had not been explained, he observed. So far as the complaint lodged in CJM's court was concerned, it was only about harassing of Zulfikar Ali by the SI. However, in the present FIR, corruption charges were levelled against him. The court felt that had there been corruption charges against the SI, there could have been their mention in the first complaint also.In the present application, Shah Mohammad was the complainant. The court found that none of the prosecution witnesses had supported the prosecution story. With these observations, the court dismissed the challan and acquitted the SI of the corruption charges.
