Delhi wrestler wins Dera Kesari dangal title

JAMMU, April 14: Sagar of Delhi clinched the 20th edition of the Dera Kesari dangal, which was organised by Dera Baba Banda Bahadur Dangal Committee in association with J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association at Dera Banda Bahadur in district Reasi.

In the main bout, Sagar defeated Navdeep of Khanna in Punjab to fetch a cash prize of Rs 5,000 in addition to silver Gurj and Patta. Runners-up, Navdeep was given away Rs 4,000 as cash prize.
Prizes were given away by chief guest, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Reasi, Avtar Singh. President of J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association, Shiv Kumar Sharma presided. Tehsildar, Rattan Singh Darrora, SDPO Reasi, Mujeeb Ur Rehman and SHO Reasi, Inspectgor Jatinder Sambyal were guests of honour. Among others present were Baba Jatinder Paul Singh Sondhi, Gaddi Nasheen of Dera Baba Banda Bahadur.

In all, 36 bouts were played in this day long dangal, organised on Baisakhi. The second main bout was won by Parveeen of Khanna in Punjab, who beat Omkar Singh of BSF, was won by Parveen after the tough fight of 25 minutes.
Third main bout went to Kalbir Singh of Kot Bhawal Jammu after he defeated Malkiyat of Punjab. In the fourth main bout, Akram of Jammu beat Akshay Kumar of Khanna in Punjab.
Dera Baba Banda Bahadur Dangal Committee members who helped for conduct of this the event were Baba Jatinder Paul Singh Sondhi, Malik am Lubhaya, Paruthi Sant Kumar Juneja, V.P Makker, Sanjay Kumar, Charn Singh, Sujjan Singh and Mohan Singh.
Technical official who were involved in officiating the bouts were Major R S Manhas, Capt. Lehar Singh (Retd.) Vijay Singh (Biju), Mohd. Fareed and Allah Mai ( Ranga).

Other Results: Karnail Singh beat Surjeet Singh; Swarn Singh of Kot Bhalwal Jammu beat Nawab of Prem Nath Akhara Delhi; Liahat of Panthal beat Chhaiya of Ramnagar; Mohd. Akram of Jammu beat Krishan of Delhi; Vijay beat Ravinder; Kaka of Attari Border Amritsar beat Kalu of Shiv Mandir Akhara Jammu; Babori of Jammu beat Malkiyat of Attari Border; Charta of Attari Border beat Prabhat Singh of Kalakote; Faroz of Jammu beat Jinda of Attari. Bouts between Kuldeep Singh and Parsotam Singh and Gurdev Singh and Likat Ali ended in a draw.
Meanwhile, president of the wrestling association and member State Sports Council, Shiv Kumar Sharma appreciated the organizers for making the event a regular feature.
