BJP blackens its face beyond recognition

EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Apr 14: The J&K unit of the so-called nationalist BJP has blackened its face beyond recognition. It has defeated its own candidate Thakur Ranjit Singh, who has been serving the party since his childhood, and voted in favour of the pro-autonomy and anti-Jammu NC, as also in favour of the Congress, which is equally responsible for all the woes of the people of Jammu province as well as the troubles facing the nation in the state. Seven out of 11 BJP MLAs have voted for the NC and the Congress. One of the BJP MLAs has voted for the pro-self-rule PDP. The poor Ranjit Singh had to content with just four votes. That he did resign then and there is a different story. But one thing is certain: He must be cursing himself for the political immaturity that he worked for the party for decades and decades – party that is devoid of principles.
The fact of the matter is that the BJP, which has been hoodwinking the people of Jammu province ever since its formation and which has been misleading the entire nation since decades by advocating fake nationalism, fake secularism and fake democracy or which has been indulging in the politics of deceit and emotional blackmail or which has been playing with the patriotic sentiments of the people across the country, has ditched the nationalist constituency in the state in general and Jammu and Ladakh in particular and established beyond any shadow of doubt that the people of Jammu province had committed a sin in 2008 against god and humanity by returning to the Assembly 11 legislators – most of them self-seekers committed to bartering away their constituency anytime to fulfill their personal ambitions and further their selfish intentions.
That the BJP was never committed to the cause of the nation and that it was worse than the so-called pseudo-secular formations could be seen from its outrageous attitude towards the people of Jammu province, Kashmir, Pakistan, Ram Temple, Ram Setu, Uniform Civil Code, Article 370, manipulated census operations in the state, issue of delimitation, establishment of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Amarnath land row and so on. Hence, if the BJP has again ditched, humiliated, insulted, abused and let down the people of Jammu province it is not at all surprising. It did what was expected of it and it has done that with immunity and shamelessly.
And, remember, it is not for the first time that the BJP has taken recourse to political debauchery. And, again, it is not for the first time that it has violated the people’s mandate, outraged its constituency and hit the nation below the belt. It has been hobnobbing with the pro-autonomy and pro-self-rule forces since 1998. It shared power with the NC at the national level after the 1998 general elections. It was prepared to support the PDP candidate during the Rajya Sabha elections in 2009 and there were elements in the BJP who had made up their mind to share power with the NC in the state in 2008-2009. They couldn’t do so because the BJP could win only 11 seats, as against the expected 23 seats.
That the BJP has been consistently voting for the Kashmir-based and Kashmir-centric parties could be seen from what it did during the 2009 Legislative Council and the Rajya Sabha elections in the state. The Legislative Council elections took place on March 7 to elect as many as 11 members. The NC captured six seats, the Congress three and the PDP and the JKNPP one each. The BJP indulged in cross voting. While one of the party legislators did not exercise his franchise in favour of the party candidate, state BJP general secretary Shamsher Singh Manhas, at least two BJP legislators voted for the NC-Congress alliance candidates. Similarly, during the Rajya Sabha elections, one of the BJP legislators exercised his second preference vote in favour of the NC candidate. It was talk of the town then that the said BJP MLA had voted in favour of Farooq Abdullah. The elections took place on February 13, 2009. The cross-voting had its adverse impact on the BJP, with the people of Jammu ridiculing it and its leadership and accusing it of double-speak. This episode had dented the image of the BJP and became one of the causes of its defeat in the 2009 general elections.
This is the BJP. Can anyone with any self-respect go near the BJP leadership? The answer is obvious.
