Early Times Report
Jammu, April 15: A day after 7 MLAs indulged in brazen act of cross voting in favour of NC-Congres coalition candidates in the Legislative Council polls, the BJP High command apparently acting on ‘high moral ground’ sought the resignation of all its 11 members of the Legislative Assembly following which submitted it to the national leaders camping in Jammu late this evening.Even as four MLAs had cast vote in favour of the party candidate on Jammu seat, the axe of disciplinary action for now has fallen on the entire flock of legislators.
Sources said the resignation of all the 11 members would now be presented before the national president Nitin Gadkari who will decide on future course of action to be taken in the matter. Embarrassed and shocked over the act of cross voting by party members in the polls, the High Command indicated it on Wednesday that it would act tough in the matter. Sources said following this unpleasant development, some sort of consensus emerged at the national leadership level that in order to send across a message of ‘harsh action’, seeking resignation from all members was proper under the circumstances, also in the wake of the fact that it was difficult to identify the ‘guilty’ lot.
Sources said following the general opinion that came from some veteran leaders at Central leadership seeking resignation was deemed as better option as it would convey a message that MLAs or representation in the House is not important than image of the party or the sentiment of the supporters. “ Some leaders are of the opinion that such legislators are a liability and black spot in the name of party…….. party can survive without such lot who care for personal interests more than the party or public sentiment”, said senior leader wishing anonymity.
Confirming the submitting of resignation by the entite flock of legislators, senior leader and co in charge J&K affairs RP Singh said he gave the papers to national general secretary JP Nadda who is also camping in Jammu after this development. However, Singh said the MLAs while owning moral responsibility for act, tendered resignation on their own. The MLAs submitted their resignation in the meeting held at party headquarters late in the vening, he added.

Prior to this, Jugal Kishore and Ashok Khajuria resigned from the party posts of chief whip and Deputy leader in the House respectively. It may bementioned that out of the 88 votes polled for two seats of Jammu region, winningcandidates Choudhary Noor Hussain (NC) and Yashpaul Khajuria(Congress), a former Minister, got 30 votes each -- 8 more than the
coalition strength, the voting pattern revealed.
“It is clear now that BJP members have indulged in cross voting ensuring the win of the coalition candidates. Even for valley seat, its candidate received one vote short”, said the senior leader.
During the day a large number of party workers and supporters took centre stage and staged a protest demonstration under the leadership of party spokesman Ramesh Arora.
Shouting sloagns targeting seven MLA's who betrayed the trust of the voters and the party leaders Arora said unless the seven MLA's are going to be punished and isolated the committed party workers are not going to take rest.He said the party high command has taken a serious
note of the cross voting as even the party nominee failed to muster equal number of votes.

Amid slogans, 'MLAs sharam karo, sharam karo', and 'boli lagao, MLA le jao', the senior and youth leaders besides corporators staged a day-long protest against the legislators for cross voting in favour of Congress and National Conference candidates.
It may be mentioned that following the development of cross voting , J&K affairs in-charge O P Kohli and national general secretary J P Nadha reached Jammu to assess the situation on ground.
