PIL for Jammu rly station upgradation filed | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 15: A petition has been filed in the court by citizens forum for making available modern facilities at Jammu railway station and its upgradation. In the petition filed by the forum through its president R K Chadha, it was submitted that Jammu railway station was one of the most crowded railway stations in the country and more than 10 million people, including Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrims, visited here annually through trains. The forum also submitted that 40 to 50 passenger and goods trains came to the railway station daily. Inspite of earning huge profits from the railway station, the Northern Railways had not taken any step for its modernization and providing modern facilities to passengers. As regards the parking lot, the petition said there was one about 300 ft below the main gate and there were stairs, but no facility had been provided to the old and sick citizens, ladies and children. In the PIL, it was submitted that it was the duty of railway authorities to instal escalators and provide modern facilities, including toilets for the passengers, they were under obligation to do so.
