“Home theatre” follows “restaurant theatre” in Vikram’s new dramaturgical idiom
4/15/2011 8:58:24 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Apr 15:
Striking an astonishing departure from the routine ritual of drama in four walled compounds, a new idiom that emerged in the open lush green lawns amidst the dusking sun presented a novel dimension to the art.
Vikram Sharma, a name synonym to off-beat challenges in the field of dramaturgy once again proved beyond the iota of any doubt that he can tune the theatre to people’s new impulses.
In its new effort, a short play entitled “Uljhan” translated by him from English original of Dell Floyd’s “Enigma”, was presented in the lawns of a house in Pamposh Colony under his dramaturgical expression of “theatre of convenience” and termed as “Hometheatre” that gathered great accolades.
Seated across a table in the open lawn with candle lit in between, neighboring people and the residents of the house making a sizable audience, the male and female actors in Neha Lahotra and Aaditya Bhanu produced a scintillating telling effect of a piece based on live- in relation through their spellbinding artistic demeanor.
Both beautifully executed the passionate conversation between Rahul and Divya that unfurled the pain, love and enigma of this relation.
“My idea to give theater an unusual idiom compels me to do something visually and effectively different and I am producing a sense of drama which is being excitingly appreciated by masses,’ said Vikram.
He added that since in the contemporary settings, the expression and appearance of drama needs to be enhanced to ultra mundane presentations; his efforts are tuned to produce an artistic flavour through theatrical ventures that may get immediately identified with the common people in glamorous way.
“I left my shoot midway to attend the show which was outstandingly unique and new to this type of art. Being a proscenium theatre artist, I felt butterflies in my stomach as I saw the actors very conveniently responding to the creative and inventive demand of the product,” said Suman Pandita, one of the renowned actors of the state. She also presided as the chief guest on the occasion.
Himanshu Darshan, the senior most stage artist of the state who was also present on the occasion termed it as ‘out of box’ innovation.
It is pertinent to mention that before this “Hometheatre’ attempt, Vikram Sharma holds the distinction of bringing “Restaurant Theatre’ concept in the state and has performed English , Hindi and Dogri plays in the restaurant among the customer audiences.
Vikas Sharma, Rajkumar Bhat, Abhiskek Magotra, Rahul Gupta, Reetu Manhas, Preeti, Hardeep Singh were among the many other who attended the show.
A Dogra cuisine of Dal-Chawal-Ambal was served as the dinner to all in the end to dedicate the show to the people of the state as Baiskahi festivity.
