Taj directs for removing encroachments from Tawi banks | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 15: Minister for PHE Taj Mohi-ud-Din today directed administration to remove all the encroachments from the banks of river Tawi immediately and also shift waste dumping sites on the river outside the city limits. Chairing a joint meeting of Irrigation & Flood Control departments, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Revenue and the district administration, the Minister stressed on making the river clean and free from dirt and encroachments. He asked the Deputy Commissioner, Jammu to supervise the anti-encroachment drive on the river and also asked the Municipal authorities to identify new sites for dumping garbage of the city. Minister said that Tawi River forms the face of Jammu city and warned that it won’t be let to ruin by some unscrupulous elements. He said that already the state assembly has passed resolution to restore the river its due and proper place by making its waters clean and banks free from encroachments. He made it clear that the encroachments on the river banks can in no way be legalized through Roshni or any other Revenue act. Present in the meeting were Commissioner/Secretary, PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Mehboob Iqbal, Chief Engineer, Irrigation & Flood Control Jammu, B.R. Dogra, Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Sanjeev Verma, Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation and other senior officers.
