BJP enacting one more farcical drama to mislead people | Legislative Council Elections | | MINCING NO WORDS NEHA EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 15: The BJP’s act of political dishonesty and its hobnobbing with the NC, the Congress and the PDP has evoked widespread condemnation. Everyone, without any exception, has denounced the BJP, which threw to the wind all democratic principles on April 13 during the Legislative Council elections and voted for its so-called arch political rivals dismissing with contempt their own candidate. There is none who has not dubbed the BJP as an anti-Jammu political outfit. There is none who has not taken the BJP to task for its double-speak, double-standard and politics of deceit and demanded the resignation of those who made common cause with the Kashmir-centric and pro-autonomy parties. Everyone has condemned the BJP. So much so that a number of outraged sand badly let down senior BJP leaders, including former MLA and former mayor plus scores of humiliated party workers, have taken on the BJP legislators, saying they have betrayed the people of Jammu province and that they need to be thrown out of the party. They even organized a dharna in front of the party headquarters to not only registered their most emphatic protest against those who committed an act of political dishonesty but also to put pressure on the party high command so that a strict action is taken against those who have violated the people’s mandate and outraged the sensitivities of the people; so that a moral effect is created. Convinced that the people of Jammu have been feeling outraged and disgraced, four MLAs, who held positions in the Legislative Assembly, including the positions of Chief Whip and Leader of the BJP Legislature Party, have reportedly resigned from their respective positions. This is nothing but a drama of sorts enacted to divert the people’ attention away from the real issue: Murder of democracy for the sake of personal power and profit. It has also been reported that the central BJP leadership has obtained resignation letters from all the 11 party legislators with a view to taking a final decision on the issue. Again, it is nothing but a drama of sorts enacted again to mislead and hoodwink the already misled, hoodwinked and thoroughly humbled people of Jammu. Reports suggest that the resignation letters are addressed to the Speaker of the Assembly. If this is the case, then how is it that they handed over their resignation letters to the in-charge of the J&K BJP for further transmission to the BJP national president for the so-called final decision? Had they been really committed to resigning from the Assembly and salvaging their position, they would have sent their resignation letters directly to the Speaker. That they have not done so and, instead, chosen an escape route does establish that the power-hungry, unscrupulous, unprincipled and corrupt to the core BJP MLAs would not quit their positions they got by an accident or got by misleading the people. Similarly, the methodology adopted by the central BJP leadership doesn’t enhance the confidence of the outraged people in the party. Had it really meant business, it would have sent the resignation letters straightaway to the Speaker. That it decided otherwise should leave none in any doubt that it is simply buying time and waiting for the dust to settle down. It has protected its unscrupulous legislators in the past and it would protect them now as well. It may take a symbolic action by snubbing them or by giving a warning that must behave responsibly in the future. The fact of the matter is that neither the party MLAs nor the party’s central leadership is committed to stemming the rot in the party. It would be only appropriate to point out that the BJP is in for serious troubles in the state, with the common people appeared determined to show it its rightful place as and when they get an appropriate opportunity. The BJP has committed a blunder and it will have to pay through its nose.
