BJP MLAs, state president summoned to Delhi on April 19 | To present ‘explanation’ before Gadkari | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 15: In what looks like the BJP high command having made up its mind to act tough and take ‘decisive’ action against the party MLAs who indulged in cross voting during the legislative council elections on April 13, all 11 members who tendered their resignation on Thursday, have been summoned to Delhi on April 19. The axe of the ‘unholy’ developments which took the party by storm may also fall on the state president Shamsher Singh Manhas who has also been asked to present himself before the national president Nitin Gadkari.
Sources said the need for summoning all the MLAs has been felt so as to allow them to present their ‘explanation’ in front of the national president before he would initiate further action in the matter. The exercise, sources said may also help the high command to identify the seven Legislators who defied the whip and voted in favour of coalition candidates. The resignations of these MLAs have already been forwarded to Gadkari by the senior leaders OP Kohli and JP Nadda in whose presence all the legislators tendered resignation in Jammu office late last evening.
Sources also said that in the meeting held in Jammu late last evening, almost all MLAs had expressed displeasure and grouse against the state president. The high command has taken a serious view of the matter particularly in the backdrop of the entire development which is why there are some indications that he may also be replaced by some senior leader in the state unit. However, the primary task remains what can be seen as ‘toughest and stern action’ which may ruin the political career of the Legislators , some of them senior leaders of the party. National spokesperson Ravi Shanker Prasad while speaking to media today said in clear terms that no leniency will be shown by the party towards the seven MLAs who defied the whip and they will face the disciplinary action as High Command has taken serious note of the anti-Party activities of these Legislators. Prasad said that on one hand BJP is highlighting the J&K issue in entire country and on the other hand the Party Legislators are indulging in anti-Party activities in this sensitive state. The party will not allow the people of the state to feel let down and it will try to come up to their expectations, he added.
While the resignations of 11 MLAs have been placed by BJP national leaders OP Kohli, incharge J&K affairs, JP Nadda national general secretary before the Party High Command for further action, sources hinted that these are likely to be forwarded to the Speaker of the J&K Assembly soon. It is pertinent to mention that national leaders in whose presence the MLAs tendered resignation, asked the MLAs to address their papers to the Speaker of the Assembly. This is almost certain that no leniency would be done this time, however, the high command deemed it proper to ‘listen’ to the MLAs before taking any final decision. The ball now lies in Gadkari’s court and it is he who will decide when and whether resignation of all MLAs would be forwarded to the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly.. . Meanwhile the BJP activists who had taken a banner of revolt against the Party leadership by resorting to chain hunger strike of 72 hours yesterday suspended the same on the assurance of Party general secretary J.P.Nadda late night yesterday who assured them that disciplinary action will be taken against the erring MLAs. The protestors led by some ex-corporates entered into heated arguments with Nadda and demanded immediate action against them. They warned to re launch the hunger strike in case Party failed to take action in stipulated time. However a pro MLAs group within the Party has also demanded action against those BJP activists and leaders, who resorted to hunger strike yesterday.
