Akhnoor Cup: Amit scripts Goumanasa’s big win

JAMMU, April 16: Sailing on a brilliant knock of 85 runs from Amit Sharma, Goumanasa Cricket Club (GCC) made it an impressive five-wicket win over Mahavir Cricket Club (MCC) in the ongoing Akhnoor Cup Cricket Tournament, organised by Vishwa Bandhu Cricket Club at Government Higher Secondary School, Akhnoor today.
Earlier, batting first, after winning the toss, MCC managed a competitive total of 137 runs in the given 20 overs.
Shubam Khajuria was top scorer with 30 runs off 23 balls studded with five boundaries while Paras Sharma contributed 14-ball 29 runs including four boundaries. Sandy contributed 28 runs to the team’s total. Ravinder and Ranjit bagged three wickets each for GCC while Gori took two.
Later, chasing the target, Goumanasa attained the goal in 19.2 overs. It was Amit Sharma, who helped his side reach the required total rather easily. Amit hit four sixes and 11 boundaries in his 85 runs innings. Bhanu added 12 runs to the team’s total. From Mahavir Club, Surya was pick of the bowlers, who took three wickets, followed by Shubam and Sharad, who claimed one each.
For his match winning innings, Amit Sharma was declared man of the match.

Challenger enters QFs

Meanwhile, in another match of the day, Challenger Cricket Club (CCC) thrashed Kherian Cricket Club (KCC) by 38 runs to reach the quarterfinals stages of Akhnoor Cup.
Batting first, Challenger piled up a huge total of 160 runs in the allotted overs by losing nine wickets. Guru Pratap Singh played a magnificent knock of 46 runs in 38 balls while Suneet and Rawat contributed 28 and 22 runs to the teams total respectively. Both Suneet and Rawat took 15 balls for their respective scores. Sumesh, Raj Kumar and Sonu took two wickets each for Kherian Cricket Club.
Kherian Club, in reply, lost wickets at regular intervals and the whole side bowled out for 122 runs. Baba and Raj Kumar contributed 30 and 28 runs respectively. From Challenger CC, Gurvinder was most successful bowler with four wickets while Rajan picked two wickets. Gurvinder was adjudged man of the match.
