Historic Devika Baisakhi mela concludes
Over 1.50 lacs witness Baisakhi mela

UDHAMPUR, APRIL-16:-Over 1.50 Lacs visitors including men, women and children of all faiths witnessed 3-day historic Baisakhi mela being observed at Udhampur every year on first of Baisakh which concluded with traditional fervour and gaiety here, today late evening.
It may be recalled that the mela is celebrated at the bank of sacred Devika rivulet from the time immemorial which is having a number of temples of different deities including famous and ancient Kamehswar Mahadev and temples of Ganga, Hanumana, Rama-Laxmana and Radha-Krishna exist on both sides of Devika. The visitors in addition to enjoying festivities of the mela, offer prayers in these temples and pour water on Shiva Lingam to seek the blessings of Lord Mahadev and other deities.
The faces of Mickey Mouse and Circus walas, Halwaies, Dhabawalas, Toy and Bangle sellers, were seen glowing with joy as they had a roaring business due to unprecedented rush of people, this year. Men, women, and children were seen enjoying the taste of sweets, Pakoras while children busy in playing on Mickey mouse games, jhullas etc.
Information Department Udhampur also arranged cultural programmes based on our rich folk culture besides depicting film shows on places of tourist and historic interest of the district during the mela which wound the visitors breathless.
Like previous year, the district administration had also made adequate arrangements of barricading, security, sanitation, first-aid, drinking water and power supply. Various departments had put up their stalls for the awareness of common masses about various government sponsored schemes meant for the benefit of people.
Among others, Mela Officer (Tehsildar settlement), Mr. Sushil Kesar, Dy SP (DAR), Mr. Mukesh Kumar were also seen supervising the mela arrangements at the venue.
