Spiritual teachings essential to lead peaceful, prosperous life: Bhalla | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, April 16: Saying that preaching of great saints and Gurus like Lord Mahavira are of greater significance to usher a world of peace and prosperity, Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Raman Bhalla called upon the people to enthuse in themselves such spiritual teachings to fight the challenges of today’s era of confusion and chaos. The Minister was addressing a mammoth gathering at the 2611th birth anniversary celebration of Lord Mahavira at General Zorawar Singh Auditorium, Jammu University, organized by SS Jain Sabha (SSJS). Describing Lord Mahavira’s teachings as of more relevance in present time for heralding peace, prosperity and amity in the State, the Minister said that today’s society is lurching in materialistic needs and greeds and spirituality is the only tool to liberate them from this unending web of self destruction. Extending greetings to the Jain community on the birth anniversary of Lord Mahavira, Bhalla said that this day is a holy festival, adding the basic idea behind such celebrations is to attain spiritual excellence by maintaining ethical behaviour and following proper code of conduct. On the occasion, Sadhvi Shri Vaibhav Shri Ji Maharaj delivered sermons and urged upon the gathering to follow the preachings of Bhagwan Mahavir like Satya, Ahimsa. The students of Shri Mahavir Jain Higher Secondary School, Jain Taruni Mandal, Shraman Sangh, Jain Dharmik Pathshala highlighted the teachings and life of Lord Mahavira through cultural programme. Later, the Minister distributed mementos among the meritorious children of Jain community. Earlier, Bhalla visited Sainik Colony Sector-B and inspected the ongoing construction work of 1-km long surface drain on both sides of the road, for which Government has earmarked Rs 15 lakh.
