Panchayat elections for taking democracy to grassroots: Chib

JAMMU, Apr 17: Minister for Medical Education R S Chib cast his vote for Panchayat elections at Satriyan today. The election is being held for electing Sarpanch and Panches for Satowali Panchayat of border tehsil R S Pura.
As many as 6 candidates are contesting election for one Sarpanch and 25 for 10 Panches. The three wards were reserved for women. The total number of over 2800 voters would elect their representatives by using the right to franchise.
Minister, talking to media, said Omar led Government was committed to conduct Panchayat election for devolution of power at grass-root level on the state. He said that government has put in place fool-proof arrangement to ensure fair elections in the state. He said this time the Panchayati elections are being conducted at non-party basis, adding that people should take part massively in electing their representatives who could contribute in the development process.
