JAMMU, April 17: The star-studded side of National Cricket Club (NCC) trounced Whites Cricket Club (WCC) by 29 runs to move into the quarterfinals of the ongoing
Rajiv Gandhi Memorial Cricket Tournament organised by Young Star Cricket Club at MA Stadium, here today.
Earlier, NCC won the toss and decided to bat first they made 160 runs for the loss of three wickets in allotted 20 overs, which, in reply, WCC could not chase and exhausted their quota of overs for 131 runs.
First class cricketers, wicket-keeper batsman Manish Dogra and Amit Billowria were main contributors to the team’s total. While Manish made 41-ball 52 runs, Amit smashed 44 (off 22 balls, 3x6, 3x4) to guide their side to a challenging total. Skipper Inderjeet Singh also batted well contributing 23 runs. From, WCC, Paras Sharma took two wickets and Aman one.
Later, chasing the target, WCC made a confident start with Pardeep Bali smashed two boundaries in very first over of their innings off seamer Pranav Mahajan. But, he could not last long as left-arm spinner Sanjay Sharma plotted his dismissal in the very next over.
After Pardeep (11) and Sidharth Magotra’s (five) dismissal, skipper Rakesh Koul and Paras Sharma consolidated the innings with a gutsy partnership of 38 runs. When it seemed that Rakesh-Paras duo would take the Whites home, leg-spinner Deepak Singh Manhas castled Paras with a beauty to restrict WCC from scoring freely. Koul and Sourav Gupta tried their bit but the required run rate was out of their reach and the team could manage only 131 runs thus lost the match by 29 runs.
Rakesh was top scorer with 41 runs while Sourav contributed 23-ball 30. Pranav Gupta (16) and Pardeep Bali (13) were other main contributors to the team’s total. Former J&K skipper, Sanjay Sharma claimed two wickets, followed by Nitin, Pranav Mahjan and Deepak with one each.
For his brilliant knock of 52 runs, Manish Dogra was adjudged man of the match.
