Big 73-run win for Adarsh Club in Akhnoor Cup

JAMMU, April 17: Adarsh Cricket Club (ACC) today registered a big 73 runs win over Krishna Cricket to move into the next round of the ongoing Akhnoor Cup Cricket Tournament at Government Higher Secondary School, Akhnoor.

Batting first, Adarsh Club piled up a decent total of 164 for eight in stipulated 20 overs after winning the toss and electing to bat first. Sunny (25), Amu (24) and Golu (20) were the main scorers. Ravi Kumar and Mala Ditta claimed three wickets each for Krishna Club.
In reply, Krishna Cricket Club bundled-out for a paltry total of 91 runs in 14.2 overs, thus lost the match by 73 runs. Apart from Nirmal (17) and Naveen (13), no other batsman could cross the double figure as they failed to negotiate the bowling trio of Ashok, Sunny and Tannu. Ashok was pick of the bowlers for Adarsh Club, taking three wickets while Sunny and Tannu shared two each. Sunny was declared man of the match for his all-round performance.
Today’s match was officiated by Jagdish Sharma and Sunil Kumar as umpires while Arush Sharma acted as the scorer.
The tournament is being organised by Vishwa Bandhu Cricket Club, Akhnoor under the supervision of Madan Lal Verma, Deepak Mani and Joginder Magotra.

PDP President today visited family of Haseena Akhter
Srinagar, April 17: Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti today visited the family of Haseena Akhter who was killed yesterday by “ unidentified gunmen” at Karpora Pakherpora.
Conveying her condolences to the family Mehbooba Mufti said Haseena’s killing had resulted in a great tragedy to another family. Prior to this she recalled many other women who had been gunned own in similar circumstances during last two years at the hands of “ unidentified gunmen” and said that the government has failed to bring culprits to book and provide justice to the victims. She called for a halt to such senseless killings and said that while they do not solve any problem but create personal tragedy and miseries.
Mehbooba Mufti demanded a thorough and urgent probe into the killing and urged the government to provide adequate compensation to the family and ensure that such incidents don’t reoccur.
