| Audit of doctors’ prescriptions soon: Sham | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, APRIL 17- Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Mr. Sham Lal Sharma has said that government is contemplating to launch audit of prescriptions issued by the doctors to the patients to ensure proper diagnosis and appropriate medicines to the patients. Seeking support of the Association of Chemists and Druggists and Drugs and Food Control Organization to curb the menace of spurious drugs, the Minister said that it is duty of every citizen to contribute for the betterment of mankind. He said that selling of spurious drugs is a great crime against the mankind and even god cannot forgive for such sins. Addressing the officers of Drugs and Food Control Organization and Members of J&K Chemists and Druggists Association at an impressive function held at Akhnoor, the Minister stressed for close coordination between the traders and department to achieve better results. He said that government will resolve all outstanding issues of the traders, which include simplification of issuance and renewal of drug licences, regulating the system of establishing new chemist shops. He asked the traders not to issue experience certificates to the ingenuine people for obtaining drug licences, adding that such certificates should be given to those who atleast render 5 years service with them, so that they can do justice with their profession after getting the licences, he asserted. Mr. Sham said that government has already initiated measures to strengthen the functioning of Drugs and Food Control Organization, adding that during the past 2 years, the organization has done commendable job. He said that all issues will be taken in phased manner and organization would be one of the best institutions in the country. He asked the officers to ensure people friendly approach and maintain credibility of the institution. Regarding new drug policy, the Minister said that the document is almost in the final shape but due to some technicalities, it will take some more time. With the formulation of new drug policy in the state, there would be check on the spurious drugs and transparency in the procurement system, he added. Controller Drugs and Food Control Organization, Mr. Satish Gupta gave resume of the functioning of the organization. He said that under the able guidance of Minister the organization has been able to achieve new mile stones. He said during the past 2 years 65 Drug Inspectors have been appointed, drug testing labs have been augmented, district offices have been established, and licensing powers have been decentralized and there is substantial check on the sale of intoxicating drugs. He said that department has been able to maintain dress code by the chemists and ITC Act 2003 has been enforced fully. He, however, assured that the department would further streamline its functioning so that the consumers get better services. President, JKCDA, Mr. Rohit Sharma also addressed the gathering and highlighted the problems being faced by the traders. Those present on the occasion included, Director Health Services, Jammu Dr. Ashok Sharma, Director Health Services, Kashmir Dr. Saleem-ur-Rehman, officers of Drug Control Organization and large number of chemists and druggists associations from across the State.
