Early Times Report

JAMMU, Apr, 17: In connection with the alleged murder of a woman at Pharwala in Rajouri in March this year, police have arrested her husband, brother-in-law and mother-in-law.
The victim was identified as Naseem Akhtar and the accused as her husband Khawaja Ali of Pharwala, his brother Abdul Latief and their mother Gulab Bano. She was married to Khawaja in 2007.
Police sources said on March 26 last, Naseem's father Wali Mohammad of Charran, Rajouri, lodged a written report with Rajouri police station that she had been murdered by her in-laws.He said soon after the marriage, Khawaja went to Saudi Arabia for
working there as a labour. However, on his return, he and his family members started harassing and beating Naseem as they suspected that she did not have a good character, he added.
The matter was later sorted out with the intervention of relatives and panchayat members.
However, on on March 26, his another son-in-law Mir Hussain received a message on telephone at about 7 am that Naseem had died.Wali said when he and his other family members reached Pharwala, they found that her in-laws were about to bury her body. When they saw the body, they noticed injury marks on forehead and the neck.
They immediately brought the matter to the notice of police which swung into action and took the body in their custody. After post-mortem in hospital, the body was handed over to her family for last rites.
Khawaja was later picked up by police. During his sustained interrogation, he allegedly told police that on the fateful night, he had strangulated Naseem to death with a rope. With the help of Latief and Bano, he had later cooked up a story that she was under
the influence of a spirit and had died.
Based on the interrogation of Khawaja and that of Latief and Bano, police arrested them and booked them under section 302 of RPC.All the three accused were on judicial remand and lodged in Rajouri district jail, the sources added.
