Let people expose designs of trouble makers
4/18/2011 7:52:42 PM
Credit needs to be given not only to the police, which unravelled the mystery behind the assassination of Ahle Hadees Chief,Maulana Showkat Ahmed,in Sringar on Friday last but also to the separatists who rose like one voice for condemning the killing of the religious leader.Maulana Showkat Ahmed is not the first religious and political leader who was killed by the militants in the Kashmir valley. In fact since 1990 a large number of religious and political leaders were eliminated, which included even those who had cast their lot with one or the other militant outfit. The trend started with the assassination of Kashmir Mirwaiz and Chairman,Awami Action Committee,Maulana Farooq,in Srinagar in 1990.Even Mirwaiz South Kashmir,Dr Qazi Nissar, too was killed. There were number of clerics and preachers who were killed but the separatists and even the mainstream political leaders were not as loud while condemning these killings as they were when Maulana
Showkat
Ahmed was eliminated.Possibly this may have goaded the police to act fast and arrest those who are allegedly involved in the killing of the Maulana. In the absence of such a loud uproar against the killing of Maulana Farooq and others, including Abdul Gani Lone, that neither the police divulged the names of the killers nor were they arrested. Also, the matter was kept under the carpet because of the unfavourable security environment that existed in Kashmir between 1990 and 1994.
This time events moved fast and the police claim to have succeeded in arresting three persons allegedly involved in the killing of the Maulana. In a major breakthrough, police claimed to have arrested three members of a core group allegedly involved in the killing of Jamiat-a-Ahli Hadees (JAH) chief Moulana Showkat Ahmad Shah last week.Police said all the three were members of a religo-political organization Sout-ul-Haq and were earlier associated with the Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen (TuM) outfit. It said Moulana was killed since the accused wanted to seize power in JAH, which they could not do as the cleric was re-elected for the third term in the religious organization. When they failed to dislodge him through (organizational) elections, a conspiracy was hatched to eliminate him in 2010,” Inspector General of Police (IGP), SM Sahai said at a press conference at the Police Control Room here. He said Shah’s proximity with certain
separatist leaders was not liked by “radical elements. All the accused were affiliated with Sout-ul-Haq, and were also members of JAH. Initial investigation has revealed that conspiracy to kill Moulana was hatched by the three members SuH who were ex-militants of TuM. They have been identified as Javaid Ahmad Munshi alias Bill Papa, a resident of Chanapora, Nissar Ahmad Khan alias Ishaq and Abdul Gani Dar alias Abdullah Gazalli,” Sahai said. The police claimed that the conspiracy to kill Moulana was hatched in 2010. He said soon after the JAH presidentship elections.
It is time for those supporting militants to understand the gravity of the plans of those owing loyalty to various groups of rebels. It is completely unislamic on the part of the organisations and the individuals to resort to brutal murders for achieving what they have not been able to achieve through fair and democratic means.Once again the internal differences among the different militant groups have been one of the factors that has helped individuals to settle personal scores. If the separatists show the courage in berating and condemning such incidents with a loud voice there are possibilities that mischief mongers abandon their nasty designs. It would be better for the people of the state to discard and disown those who have been preaching hatred and violence.Let people come out of their self-imposed hibernation and raise their voice against all those supporting violence, against all those trying to destabilise peace in the state.
