Hilal’s protest helps Bhagawati Club enter semis
2nd Rajiv Gandhi Cricket Tournament

JAMMU, April 18: Protest over an umpire’s decision by captain of the Simula Cricket Club (SCC), Hilal Rather today helped Bhagwati Cricket Club (BCC) to the semi-finals of the ongoing 2nd Rajiv Gandhi Memorial Cricket Tournament at MA Stadium, here.
Chasing a modest total of 106, Simula were playing at seven without loss in the second over of their innings when trouble struck the game.
As per the organizers of the tournament, Young Star Cricket Club, one of the umpires, officiating the second match of the day, declared opener, Hilal Rather out finding him creating a `deliberate’ obstacle to the fielder attempting a catch.
However, the decision was not acceptable to the skipper of star-studded side, who decided to leave the field in protest. On the other hand, the organizers, finding Simula not in a mood to resume the game, awarded match to Bhagwati Club.
Kapil guides Young Star to semis
In another match of the day, Kapil’s unbeaten knock of 67 runs powered hosts Young Star Cricket Club to beat Strikers XI by nine wickets on way to the semifinals.
Earlier, Strikers Club won the toss and elected to bat first made 122 runs losing nine wickets in the process. Soumay Jain was the top scorer with 38 runs, hitting three boundaries. Sandy contributed 24 runs with the help of four hits to the fence while Sahil and Sachin chipped in with 22 and 11 runs respectively.
Rajan and Sukha claimed two wickets each for Young Star Club while young skipper Satyabrat picked one.
In reply, Young Star chased the target easily in 17 overs losing just one wicket and won the match by nine wickets. Openers Kapil and Vicky played sensibly to make a partnership of 77runs before Vicky was run out at his individual score 31 runs. Then one down batsman Amit and Kapil took their side home without any further damage. Kapil scored magnificent 65 runs with the help of delectable eight fours while Amit contributed 19 runs with one six and one four.
Kapil of Young Star was adjudged man of the match for his superb knock of 67 runs. This match was officiated by Anil Kumar and Yogesh Sharma.
FIXTURE: DGP XI shall take on Challenger Cricket Club in quarterfinal at 7 am at the same venue tomorrow.
