| President appreciates Sheikh-ul-Aalam, Lal Ded’s verses, Kashmiri, Assamese, Dogri & Kud composite cultural programme | | Presents mementos to various institutions, departments, artists | | Srinagar, JULY 29 – In SKICC auditorium when a galaxy of Supreme Court jurists, Chief Justices of various states and legal luminaries of the country were present, a grand cultural programme was presented last evening in the honour of President of India Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. On this occasion, Chief Justice of India Mr. Justice Y. K. Sabharwal, Governor Lt. Gen. (Retd) S K Sinha, Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad, Chief Justice of State High Court Mr. Justice B. A. Khan, ministers and senior officers were present. The programme exclusively organized for the visiting guests to the Valley was mainly based on composite culture of Jammu and Kashmir State. The audience remained spell bound with presentations. Lal Ded’s and Amir Khusro’s verses and Sheikh-ul-Aalam’s kalam touched the hearts of the people. The programme was organized by the Department of Information and Public Relations. The galaxy of audience present on the occasion was highly impressed with the presentation of traditional Kashmiri marriage ceremony by Women College Parade and Assamese and Kud dances performed by the students of Government College for Women Gandhi Nagar. Ms Deepali Watal, Mr. Jeevan Sharma, Mr. Dhananjay Koul, Mir Munir Ahmad and Ms Mehmeet also presented their items, which were appreciated by the audience. Dr. Kalam gave awards to Gandhi Nagar College, Information Department and Parade College for their group performance and joint mementos were given to individual artists including Mr. Jeevan Sharma and Ms Deepali Watal of Information Department and Cultural Academy respectively. Awards were also given to Mr. Dhananjay Koul, Mir Munir Ahmad and Ms Mehmeet for their best performances. On behalf of colleges, Director Colleges Dr. N. D. Wani, their staff members and performing artists received the group award and on behalf of Information Department, Director Information and Public Relations Khawaja Farooq Renzu, his staff and performing artists received award. While as joint and individual awards were received by the concerned artists. The President, Governor and Chief Minister had group photographs with artists. While interacting with artists during photo session, Dr. Kalam expressed his all praise for superb performance, which he liked to attend for two hours. He advised all the artists to maintain the same tempo in order to establish the uniqueness and significance of sufiana and composite culture of Jammu and Kashmir State, which has no match in any part of the world.
