Sham for action against labs responsible for sex determination investigations | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, April 18: Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Sham Lal Sharma, Monday directed the concerned officers to take stern action against the diagnostic clinics responsible for conducting sex determination investigations. “There is also need for involving social and religious leaders to put tab on the heinous crime of female feticide,” Sharma said while addressing a review meeting of Health and Family Welfare department. Sharma called for setting up Constituency Advisory Committee to monitor the clinical activities on ground, adding these would suggest preventive measures for yielding better results towards in bettering sex ratio. The Minister expressed satisfaction on the overall health scenario in Jammu division and stressed the need for plugging the loopholes to improve the functioning further. He asked the medicos to work with extra zeal and commitment in close coordination with each other. He said there is still scope for improvement, while cautioning the poor performers to mend ways and improve performance. He said mother-child mortality rate has been brought down considerably during the last 2 years. There is also substantial improvement in the revenue, OPD and institutional delivery system, he added. The Minister ordered immediate attachment of BMO Purmandal Dr. Parminder Singh with Gandhi Nagar hospital for showing slackness in duties and improper maintenance of official records. He also ordered termination of Data Operator in SDH Purmandal (Contractual) for his negligence in maintaining necessary records of the health institutions. Earlier, Director, NRHM, Dr. Yashpal Sharma briefed the meeting about the achievements of the health sector in Jammu division.
