| Scandalous affairs in court Bhalwal jail | | |
Things in the Court Bhalwal jail have never been smooth, since its
setting up to lodge the detained and convicted Kashmiris secessionist
militants. It has always remained a hot bed of conspiracies and mutual
squabbles among its inmates and between the prisoners and the jail
officials. There have been cases of jail break or attends at jail
break by the prisoners, mainly the militants, through digging tunnels
within the wards and cells. The investigations into all these mishaps
have established the involvement of jail officials in the same.
Lately, the goings on in the jail have assumed a scandalous proportion
and the situation should cause alarm to the authorities at the higher
level. The unearthing of a nexus between the jail inmates, mainly the
terrorists and some jail officials in running a parallel
administration and a network of mobile phones, with the prisoners
making as well as receiving calls not only from various parts of the
country, but also with foreign lands should be a matter of serious
concern to the concerned authorities engaged in anti militancy
operations. The operation of criminal mafia gangs from within the jail
has been a common feature in several parts of the country, mainly in
Bihar and UP. These states are notorious for nexus between the
politicians and the criminals, with several notorious criminals having
joined one or the other political party, with a view to carry on their
illegal and criminal deeds, under the cloak of their political status.
The politicians cum criminals lodged in the jails, either as under
trials, detainees or convicts having regular rapport with their
accomplices outside the jail, passing on directions to them and
carrying on their criminal acts from within the jail. This has been a
matter of serious concern. But existence of such nexus in the jails in
Jammu and Kashmir and some hardcore terrorists carrying on their acts
of sabotage and subversion from within the jail, by running a network
of cell phones, is all the more a serious matter. Particularly coming
to notice of the fact that some of the militants including some Pak
nationals lodge in the court Bhalwal jail were in direct communication
with their counter parts in some foreign countries needs be viewed
with serious concern, since it involve the security of the country. It
is all the more alarming that the jail superintendent and some other
officials are hand in glove with the inmate terrorists and are
facilitating their ignoble deeds. This way the jail provides only a
safe haven to the anti country militants to carry on their activities,
under the protection of jail authorities. A serious review of the
whole situation needs be taken and a foolproof policy and line of
action need be evolved to ensure that the militants lodged in the
jails are not able to use the four walls if the jails as sanctuaries.
The treatment meted out to this section of prisoners in the jails need
also to be reviewed. The purpose of lodging these elements in the
jails, which is to marginalize them and incapacitate them to further
their nefarious designs and if the same purpose is defeated lodging
them in the jails has no meaning, rather it proves counter productive
by facilitating them in their pursuit. The environments and security
within the jails should be foolproof.
