Pre-seasonal workshop begins at SKUAST-J | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 18: Pre-Seasonal Research Extension Interface-cum-review Workshop for Kharif 2011 under ATMA Scheme for Jammu Division was inaugurated today by Minister for Agriculture Ghulam Hassan Mir at SKUAST-J. In his address, G H Mir informed the participants about ATMA Scheme which was launched countrywide in the year 2005-06, but was implemented late in J&K State and was primarily aimed at reducing the time between technology generated in the University and its effective transfer to the real stakeholders of the state. He further stressed that the interest in agriculture needs to be regenerated among farmers for ensuring their livelihood security and sustainable income to uplift their socio-economic conditions for which the University scientists and Extension personnel from the line departments need to play an effective role. He exhorted upon the University scientists to come up with farmer friendly technologies for better production and productivity. Earlier, Dr. K.S. Risam extended a warm welcome to all the dignitaries and participants of the meeting. Vinod Bala Sharma, State Nodal Officer (ATMA) informed the house about the implementation and status of the ATMA Scheme in the State. Ajay Khajuria, Director Agriculture gave a power point presentation of the sector wise activities undertaken under ATMA during the previous financial year. He also presented the action plan proposed for the current year 2011-12.
