Interlocutors commence their final visit | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 18 : New Delhi's nominated interlocutors on Jammu Kashmir today commenced their final visit of the state. During their two-day stay in Jammu Kashmir, they are scheduled to meet 'intelligentsia and the academia' for finding a political solution to the Kashmir issue. Padgaonkar, academician Radha Kumar and former Central Information Commissioner MM Ansari were appointed as interlocutors by the Centre in October last year towards the end of the summer unrest in the Valley, which left over 100 dead. The team has been given one year to submit a report to the Centre for a political solution to the Kashmir problem. The interlocutors have so far submitted six interim reports to the Centre in which they have recommended release of political prisoners and students held on charges of stone pelting, end to arrests of youths for participating in last year's protests and removing bunkers from some residential areas of the city. As part of their recommendations, the government has removed 40 bunkers from various parts of the city and many second rung separatist leaders and their sympathisers have been released. |
