Voices favouring K resolution keep on multiplying | | | Voices on the need for resolving the Kashmir issue keep on multiplying.Voices in favour of the settlement of the 63-year old problem are heard not only within the state of Jammu and Kashmir and in Delhi but in various countries.Such voices are even heard in Pakistan which has been responsible for engineering Mumbai mayham in 2008 and for continued aid to terrorists which had forced New Delhi to suspend the composite dialogue with Islamabad.Voices favouring holding of triangular talks for the resolution of the Kashmir issue are heard in the camps of separatists in the valley.Whenever these separatists run out of ideas and slogans they simply refer to the Kashmir issue that allows them liberty for fulminating against New Delhi. The Kashmir Mirwaiz and Chairman All Party Hurriyat Conference,Molvi Umar Farooq, has again blamed New Delhi for delaying Kashmir settlement. He has stated the status-quo policy maintained by New Delhi on Kashmir is delaying the resolution of the Kashmir dispute. He has underscored the need for resolving the long-standing issue at the earliest, asserting that it was imperative for peace in the region. Kashmir needs to be resolved through tripartite talks between India, Pakistan and Kashmiris, but New Delhi,as he puts it, wants to maintain its policy of status quo.The Mirwaiz accused India of using oppressive tactics to suppress the movement for right of self-determination of Kashmiris for the past 63 years. “Come what may, we will continue to fight for our birth right at a time when voices around the globe are advocating for peaceful resolution of the dispute,” he has stated. As has been the cvase with the mainstream political leaders Dr Farooq Abdullah, his son Omar Abdullah,Mufti Mohd.Sayeed and his daughter,Mehbooba Mufti, have been advocating the need for resolving the Kashmir issue through talks. At times they want the settlement of the dispute through bilateral parleys and on other occasions they favour the issue to be resolved through triangular talks. There used to be a stage when Dr Farooq Abdullah would say that talks should not be resumed with Islamabad unless Islamabad stopped using the soil of Pakistan for exporting terror to India in general and to Jammu and Kashmir in particular. When Omar Abdullah assumed office as Chief Minister he would not touch the issues pertaining to Kashmir settlement, bilateral or triangular parleys. The Father-son duo does not want to give an ample scope to their political rival the Muftis to enlarge their vote bank by touching issues that are dear to a major section of people in the state, and India and Pakistan. One would wish to know from the separatists and from those mainstream political leaders, who have been raking up the issue of Kashmir settlement through talks, what contribution they have made and are making in bringing New Delhi and Islamabad closer. One would like to know from them whether they have prepard a roadmap or a blueprint of ideas that could lead to the resolution of the Kashmir issue. After Atal Behari Vajpayee if there has been any other political leader keen on promoting cordial ties with Pakistan it is Prime Minister,Manmohan Singh.Manmohan Singh has,the other day, wished to succeed in his mission of bringing India and Pakistan closer than they have remained all these 63 years. He has stated he would consider his job done if ties between the two countries normalise.“Well, I think . If I can succeed in normalising relations between India and Pakistan as they should prevail between two normal states, I would consider my job well done,” Singh has said. This very brief statement reflects Singh's sincerity for promoting normal tis with Pakistan. Now it is upto Pakistan to reciprocate Singh's sentiments and feelings and that can be done by fulfilling some of the demands of New Delhi which could lead to end to terrorism.Pakistan is passing through a stage of crisis and it will be in its interests to promote friendly ties with India.Normal ties can be promoted within a few hours if Islamabad deviates from its Kashmir centric approach.First of all Pakistan needs to help itself to rid the country of the menace of terrorism and that can be done if it is assisted by India.New Delhi will be prepared to help Pakistan provided it is not plagued by terror threat from Pakistan. |
