Music, painting competition held at Abhinav theatre | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Apr 19: In order to promote excellence in performing arts the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages and Viraj Kala Kendra, Jammu jointly organised a day long painting cum music competition at Abhinav theatre here on Tuesday. In all students from twelve schools of Jammu took part in the event. Minister for revenue and relief, Raman Bhalla was the chief guest on the occasion. Addressing those present on the occasion Bhalla said that performing arts were part and parcel of human life and it was good that the state had a prestigious body like the Cultural Academy for its dissemination and propagation. Echoing Bhalla, state commissioner for scouts and guides, ID Sohni said that holding of cultural events was must for holistic development of human personality and need of the hour was to prioritise culture. Appreciating the performance of dance groups of local schools of Jammu secretary Academy Zafar Iqbal Manhas said that it was the collective talent of state’s youth that cultural diversity of the state was alive. Before winding up the event a prize distribution function was held in which prizes were distributed among the winners of painting competition in the order of merit. In junior category Priya Gupta bagged the consolation prize while Krishna Gupta of J&K Public School got the first prize. In senior category Samish Singh Wazir and Hridanshi Abrol got consolation prizes while Shweta Gupta was awarded the first prize. Later the Cultural Academy also honoured social worker and activist, Prof. Rita Jitendra and budding singer Satinder Shanu. They were presented awards by additional secretaries of the Cultural Academy, Savita Bakshi and Shamima Akhter on behalf of the secretary. Viraj Kala Kendra, Jammu was represented by its general secretary, Raj Bharti while programme proceedings were conducted by Usha Chunni.
