Rajiv Cricket: Aggarwal Club enters semis | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, April 19: Despite Sunny Malik’s fine innings of 48-ball 50 runs, Muslim Cricket Club (MCC) Reasi lost to Aggarwal Cricket Club (ACC) by four wickets in the quarterfinals of the ongoing 2nd Rajiv Gandhi Cricket Tournament at MA Stadium, here today. Earlier, batting first, the well-knitted side of MCC played well setting a target of 134 runs for the loss of seven wickets in allotted 20 overs. Sunny Malik hit brilliant half century facing 48 deliveries while Babbar Mughal contributed 24 runs. From ACC, Akash Bhalwal was most successful bowler with five wickets. Later, ACC found it difficult to overhaul the opponent total and could attain the target only in 19.3 overs for the loss of six wickets. At one point of time, ACC were in need of 72 runs in remaining eight overs, but sensible batting by young Aditya Pratap Singh (39) and Bandeep Singh (13) helped the side attain the goal. Dheeraj Sharma and Vimarsh Kaw contributed 25 and 15 runs respectively. For his five-wicket haul, Akash Bhalwal was adjudged man of the match.
DGP XI beaten by 33 runs
Meanwhile, in another match of the day, Challenger Cricket Club registered a big 33 runs victory over Director General of Police (DGP) XI, courtesy five wickets haul by Guru Pratap Singh. With today’s win Challenger qualified for the quarterfinals. Challenger Club, batting first scored 145 for nine. Chamkor Singh played a magnificent innings of 41 (off 27 balls, 7x4) runs. Rawat contributed 22 runs while Shubam Khajuria and Guru Pratap Singh chipped in with 22 and 15 runs respectively. From DGP XI, Manjeet and Shashi scalped two wickets each while Naresh and Ishmeet Singh shared apiece each. In reply, DGP XI lost wickets at regular intervals and managed only 112 runs in 20 overs losing eight wickets as Guru Pratap Singh bowled a splendid spell of four overs taking away five important wickets for just 19 runs. Kannu made highest 31 runs for DGP XI, while Rajesh Gill contributed 20 runs to the total and Suman Koul (18). For his match winning spell, Guru Partap was adjudged man of the match for his all-round show.
