Basic amenities to all people priority of government: Bhalla

JAMMU, April 19: As a part of Baisakhi celebrations, the Viraj Kala Kendra (VKK), Gandhi Nagar,, in collaboration with Art, Culture and Languages, today organized painting and dance competitions at Abhinav Theatre in which about 500 students of various schools of city of temples participated.
Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Raman Bhalla was the chief guest while Secretary Art, Culture and Languages, Zaffar Iqbal Manhas presided over the function.
Addressing the gathering, Bhalla said Festival of Baisakhi is celebrated with lot of joy and enthusiasm across the country, adding that farmers are jubilant over the festival as it marks the time for harvest of rabi crops. He said prosperous with the bountiful produce, the farmers look forward in celebrating Baisakhi festival with all eagerness.
The Minister said such type of occasions not only give the chance to the younger generation in presenting their hidden talent through cultural programmes, but also educating them about the dress, culture and heritage of the state.
Bhalla informed the gathering that for facility of students, work on prestigious state- of- the- art auditorium, with seating capacity of 500 persons, has been started at government Girls’ High School Ghandinagar costing Rs. 6 crore. He said, on the completion, the project will facilitate students in conducting extra-curricular activities in a systematic manner.
For improving the power scenario in Gandhi Nagar and its adjoining areas, he said a 10 MVA 33/11 KV Receiving Station at Shastri Nagar is under progress and would be completed by March 2011 at an estimated cost of Rs. 3.26 crore.
Bhalla said that the state government was committed to provide all basic amenities to the people of the state at their door steps, adding a massive development plan in health, R&B, education, etc sectors has been formulated to improve the basic needs of the people.
The Minister said 19000 sq ft area auditorium would be fully air-conditioned with facilities for projector room, toilet, dressing room, VIP room, parking besides 500 persons seating arrangements.
Earlier, at Nanak Nagar Sector 11 and 14, Bhalla inspected the construction works of lanes and drains which are being completed by fixing the interlock tiles. He said for this purpose, the Government has earmarked Rs. 6.40 lakh for completing the works within stipulated time frame.
