| Indian judiciary a source of inspiration: Governor | | | SRINAGAR, JULY 29- Taking pride in vibrant and robust Indian judiciary, Governor Lt. Gen (Retd) S K Sinha today said that it has been a source of inspiration, trust and help to the common masses. Speaking at a function held in connection with Diamond Jubilee Celebrations of Jammu and Kashmir High Court here this morning, the Governor said that judiciary commands a special place in the hearts of the people as it has emerged as a great protector of their rights. General Sinha complimented the High Court for taking positive measures in reducing the number of backlog cases and said this will help the people seeking justice greatly. He said computerization will also go a long way in minimizing backlog of cases. Describing independent judiciary, free press, executive and legislature as the four pillars of democracy, he said that robust judiciary has been a great strength of this great republic. He congratulated the bench and bar, past and present, for the diamond jubilee celebrations and said Jammu and Kashmir High Court has had a glorious past and is all set to have a glorious future. The Governor elaborately dwelt on jurisprudence and made a mention of his different stints as a prosecuting officer, defending officer, presiding and reviewing officer of the court martial during his career in the army. President, Dr A P J Abdul Kalam delivered the keynote address while the Chief Justice of India, Chief Minister, Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad, Chief Justice, Jammu and Kashmir High Court, Mr Bashir Ahmed Khan, Deputy Chief Minister, Mr Muzaffar Hussain Being and a galaxy of legal luminaries, judges and lawyers, besides ministers and legislators were present. |
