MLAs present ‘claims’ before Gadkari, Parilamentary Board to take final decision
Leadership in possession of ‘substantial evidence’, axe to fall on ‘identified’ lot

Early Times Report
Jammu , April 19
The national president of BJP Nitin Gadkari met the party MLAs in Union capital on one to one basis first followed by a general meeting this evening and listened to their ‘claims and counter claims’ over the cross voting during the Legislative Council polls on April 13. The matter has now been referred to the 12 member Parlimanetary Board, the highest decision making body of the party which is led by president and has top most leaders on board.

According to sources the national president gave patient hearing to what the legislators had to say about the matter and their individual perspective about the whole issue in so far as the party is concerned. The meeting of the president with the legislators was in fact mean to give this message Gadkari wants to register and gather his own assessment of the matter before arriving at any conclusion, sources added. Since it is the Parliamentary Board which takes the final view and decision in such crucial matters, it will meet tomorrow and discuss the issue as its main agenda. The matter being critical and crucial in terms of the fate of huge number of MLAs belonging to the party, the Board may not take any decision in a hurried manner tomorrow itself, sources said. Confirming the matter having been referred to Parliamentary Board Dr Jitender Sing, chief spkesperosn of the party in J&K said , “it is the highest decision making body which will discuss the matter threadbare…….however, the president shall also give his assessment of the matter in the meeting tomorrow”.

However, what is significant is that with almost entire state leadership including the 11 members of the Legislative Assembly in Delhi, the high command of the BJP is dissecting and assessing minutest nuances and details of the cross voting indulged in by the MLAs, a matter about which very serious view has been taken by the party for the first time . Sources also said that the party leadership has managed to get ‘substantial evidence’ suggesting direct involvement of some MLAs in the act. In fact some names already stand identified and isolated, said the sources adding that even during their meeting with the National president some members admitted their involvement ina reluctant manner.

The main onus of taking the final decision now lies with the Parliamentary Board which meets later in the day tomorrow. Sources indicated since it has become prestige issue with the party leadership and it has already been conveyed that tough action will be taken, the ‘expulsion’ of some members is the likely outcome in tomorrow’s meeting implying the resignation of ‘some’ members who stand identified by one way or the other may be forwarded to the Speaker of the Assembly. By taking such stern action the party leadership wants the send the message across the nation that it has acted on high moral ground and cannot tolerate corrupt practices and indiscipline within the party, something which it is fighting against in centre as well, said the sources.
According to highly placed sources in the party, after giving a patient hearing to all the BJP legislators inside the party headquarters in the national capital BJP President Nitin Gadkari late Tuesday evening drove straight to the residence of Lal Krishan Advani to brief him along with party general secretary Ananth Kumar".

The party sources said the party President appeared unhappy with the defence of the party MLA's and thrashed them for their provocative act of grave indiscipline.

. The BJP state chief Shamsher Singh Manhas and former state president Dr Nirmal Singh are also said to have reached Union Capital this morning. Strangely the son of BJP MLA and a senior Party leader also left for Union Capital this morning in the same flight in which Dr Nirmal Singh was travelling.
Sources said that Dr Nirmal Singh had given indications that he was called by party High Command to seek his views on the issue. However during their last two days stay in Union Capital Ashok Khajuria and Ch Sukhnandan met various senior leaders of the Party including its leader in Rajya Sabha, Arun Jaitley and clarified their position.
However sources said that the High Command is totally unmoved by the arguments of the BJP MLAs and it is contemplating to take disciplinary action against all the MLAs in view of the allegations and counter allegations leveled by them against each other. Any leniency shown by the High Command will be demoralizing for the BJP cadres in the state as the cross voting by seven MLAs amounts to defection and horse trading for which they deserve the disciplinary action, said a local BJP leader
Even the VHP which is also the sister organization of BJP has also taken serious exception to the horse trading by BJP and called for disciplinary action against the MLAs involved in cross voting. National spokesman of VHP Parkash Sharma who is camping in Jammu said that VHP is not responsible for every omission and commission of BJP and his organization will continue its task.
He however urged the BJP national leadership to take corrective measures in cleansing the politics of such elements who are bringing bad name to the organization.
However it is not for the first time that BJP MLAs have indulged in cross voting but in 2009 LC elections its two MLCs also did cross voting to defeat the then party candidate Shamsher Singh Manhas and later one MLA also voted in favour of Union Minister for Renewable Energy, Dr Farooq Abdullah in RS elections. Dr Abdullah was NC candidate at that time.
Meanwhile son of BJP candidate Th Ranjit Singh has also left for Delhi to meet the High Command there to disclose the names of those MLAs who voted in favour of BJP candidate.
